we are in the process of adopting this handesome 7 month old, the rescue center says hes a spitz mix, but hes not nearly fluffy enough to be a spitz, i was thinking akita maybe, but not sure, any ideas? im sticking with spitz on my homeowners association application because for some unknown reason Akitas arent allowed in the neighborhood, closed minded fools.. but i dont think he's spitzish, he looks more malamute or Akita-ish.. am i right?

Spitz is a type of dog, not a breed. An Akita is considered a spitz ;) Spitz - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (You can think of a spitz as 'husky looking dogs' ;)

Do you have a standing up picture-and another showing the ears better?
I agree-Akita looks good but there is something interesting in there ;)

And CONGRATS on adopting!! :)

thats what i was thinking, and your right it says on his adoption forms that he's a keeshond spitz. , but still they look like little lions with the big mane! i dont have a standing up picture yet. the rescuers agree he really could be anything because he was found as a stray they dont know much about him other then he's a sweetheart, so. it really doesnt matter to me what breed he is, i'll love him anyways, its just a curiosity.. :) and yes thats one thing i do love about rescuing..

Maybe they meant ELKHOUND mix as I do see elkhound and also possibly shiba inu as well. How big (tall, heavy) is he and how old? And yes spitz is a type, not really an individual breed. Elkhound, keeshond, shiba inu, akita are all considered spitz type dogs.

At first I thought it was a hybrid dog mixed in with another animal that isn't k-9 ish. (Quick glance had to relook again and study.) He is very handsome and has a very unique look to him. What ever he is, he is a great looker and I'm sure he will be very impressive grown up. Congradulations. Def more pictures please.

thank you everyone for your support! i'll find out hopefully today if my application was approved. and then i'll be able to see him again and take more pictures! right now he's about ( this is their vets estimate) 7 months old, and they think when he's full grown he'll only be 35-40 pounds, so, he's not really huge. and i must admit the shape of his ears remind me of an African wild dogs ears! and i didnt even think about elk hound or shiba inu, those are definite possibilities to. oh i love mysteries!....:D thank you all again!
