What breed of cat is this?

So my boyfriend has a new cat. His neighbors paid $600 for the cat. It was an indoor and outdoor cat, so when my S/O first met it he thought it was a stray and started feeding it. Then they became very close. When his neighbors moved across the country they left him behind.

One thing id like to know is, what on Earth breed is this cat? He was $600 so he must be purebred? The popular opinion is Maine Coon, but he is a rather small cat and coons are HUGE. As someone from Maine, I have met my fair share of purebred coons and they are nowhere near as cuddly or outgoing as this one.

So what could he be? :ponder:

Also, when my S/O moves up here this fall or winter how should he go about making sure that the kitty is as comfortable as possible during the 2-3 day commute via car? It's a 1,200 mile commute and there will be hotels involved.

Well,it lacks the ear tufts of a Maine Coon Cat as well, looks like an American Ragdoll Cat to me except it doesn't have blue eyes. It could also be a Siberian but, if it is, it would have the triple coat and, blow its coat twice a year, just like Huskies do.

Norwegian Forest cat? They look similar to Maine coons and ragdolls. My Maine coon look alike from a shelter is twelve pounds but has some of the health problems that Maine coons do. Hes always been very thin but a big cat and very active and at almost fourteen still runs, plays and wrestles a lot daily with his cat buddy half his age.
Also Maine coons are famous for being like dogs, very clingy and friendly and in your face loving. My now deceased mom nicknamed my Maine coon "Lovey" because he has to be the closest to every person at all times. He gets jealous of every other pet and pushed himself between the person and whatever pet they're cuddling with. He races to greet everyone even total strangers and literally stands on his hind legs and climbs up your ribs to wrap around your neck and just hang out there frantically purring and drooling. He sleeps wrapped around my head, neck and chest with his paw wrapped possessively around my hand or arm. If I turn over and my back is to him he moves so he's facing me at all times. He cuffs the dog and other cats away from me and pushes them away constantly unless I chase him off. Gives little love nips.
So clingy it's annoying and i can't breathe literally at times but I feel guilty for thinking that. Definitely hurts my bond with any other pets. He's tried to swat away literally dying cats in their last days, and steal their special treats. Very bonded to one or two other cats but not great empathy for other animals as a whole. Although did seem to grieve other cats and dog who died over the years.

You can do DNA testing, but my cat looks like pictures of Maine coons and acts like all the characteristics I've read are characteristic of the breed. And has had the dental issues and some other health issues known in the breed to boot, though I got him as a kitten in a shelter.

My Maine coon look alike, or mix or whatever he is. The cream long-haired tabby who sheds everywhere and leaves long white hairs on absolutely EVERYTHING I own and wear.
