Hi there! I'm Ashley and I need your help with our pekingese.

We recently brought home a 10-week-old pekingese puppy as first-time dog owners. We've had him for a week and are doing our best - crate training, playing, potty training, etc. I'm extremely overwhelmed.

Puppy started to bite and nip a bit (ow!), so I spoke with the breeder today to confirm it's normal puppy behavior and she said it's because I'm not holding him enough. She said I need to hold him all day, everyday for the next 6 months with Zero time in the crate during the day.

I am extremely nervous now because my husband and I work full-time, so I can't stay at home and hold him all day. I can bring him to the office, but he's too squirmy now and won't stay still while I'm working.

Are you familiar with pekingese puppy care? Have recommendations? Does this sound right?

Please!

Your puppy is adorable. I have a senior Peke-Shih Tzu mix which I adopted a few years ago.

I've never head that you need to be physically holding your puppy 24/7. It seems to be that doing so might actually encourage separation anxiety.

I would instead recommend that you take a look at the videos and articles posted in this thread for guidance.

Good luck!

I've never raised a puppy, but from what I understand, puppies are rarely aggressive. It sounds like she's trying to play with you. She might just be overstimulated and not know how to interact properly.

Have you looked into a puppy class yet? I think you might benefit from taking her to a class so that she can socialize with other dogs and you can pick up some tips from a trainer.

I might recommend a couple of books:

Also, kikopup's videos are terrific. She has a series of videos just about puppies.
