Hey everybody! I wanted to inquire about something and I'm thinking this is the correct spot to put this here.

I have a Russian Blue that I rescued when she was 2 1/2 yrs old, and I've had her about a yr and a half. If u know their personality, they latch on to 1 or 2 humans, and are reserved with strangers. She's been the only furbaby in the house for about a yr and a half. I had to work with her skittish and trust issues for a long time, about 6 months. Now, she's a sweetheart who follows us around and loves attention.

Recently we decided to foster dogs. I was so concerned with how she would be, if she would hate us for a while or what could happen with a dog in the house. We brought in a 6 month old foster pit bull mix almost a month ago, and after 2 wks decided to keep him bc he works so well with our family. For the most part she tolerates him, but sometimes will hiss at him, and he will just ignore it. I did introduce them properly and when they are in the same room they are heavily supervised. Sometimes he wants to play with her but of course he is learning he can't play with cats.

Has anyone had this experience, and has your cat come around and become friends with the dog?

My two cats had no experience with dogs until we got Jayne and I think they've adjusted well, but I wouldn't call them friends. :D Dazzel is very me-oriented, in the 8 years I've had her she only just started liking the rest of my family a few years ago. Winifred has always been skittish. The two cats sometimes like eachother, but Dazzel is crabby and will spit at Fred if she lingers too long.

Its pretty much the same with Jayne. She's been with us 2 years and the cats really only tolerate her. They let her sniff them and sometimes clean their ears for awhile, but not for very long. Winifred is actually more tolerant of Jayne than Daz is,which surprised me.

My cat was about a year and half old when I moved in with my aunt who had two small dogs, a mini schnauzer and a yorkie. My cat hated them at first, so I made my bedroom her safe room, where the dogs were not allowed so she could escape if need be. The first time one of the dogs came into her room, she chased him under the bed and beat him bad enough that he never attempted to come back in that room. Luckily he is a nice dog or that could have ended badly. Anyway, after a few months, the cat and the dog got along fine, and even began to play with each other. The cat and the yorkie never seemed to notice each other. Now that I live on my own and have my own dog, the cat plays with her too. I think it really depends on the personality of both the cat and the dog, but it is possible for them to get along and maybe even be friends eventually.

Our two cats basically ruled the house with the houlas when they lived here. They would commandeer the dog beds and the dogs would come to us for help making them move. My old bc/lab/golden mix would have to curl up around the one cat on her dog bed with a helpless expression. It depends on the dog I think. A high prey drive could spell disaster to a cat. The pits that I dog sit at times are great with our cats!
