I think I've been adopted!

I don't know if my neighbors realizes it yet, but their cat Rusty seems to have adopted me:D

For the past 2 weeks he's been coming in my yard meowing at me for attention, and he started following me up onto my deck. Right now he's sleeping out on the deck. I haven't convinced him that it's safe to come in yet, but give me enough time and I will ;). Him and Shadow have a live and let live attitude toward each other, they'll sniff each other then go about their business. If Shadow had a problem I'd have to chase Rusty off even though it'd break my heart to scare him since he's my buddy.

Just got to thinking, if I do get him to come in I'm going to have to cover my furniture. One of Rusty's favorite hobbies is rolling around in the sand. I say he's getting dirty, but he seems to think it adds to his attractiveness, he loves to roll in the sand then try and get me to pet him.

Here's a couple of pictures of him out in my yard right at the bottom of the deck steps. See how he's made himself at home LOL.

Awww Rusty is soo cute! I want to be adopted too! I'm allergic to cats so I'd love to have a kitty guest every once in awhile :p

Not sure how Riley would feel about that though..

Thanks! He's a character alright, but such a sweetheart. If he's pestering me for attention and I ignore him he'll nip me. He likes to rub noses with me, loves to be pet and talked to, and he'll "talk" back. He's brought live baby bunnies to his owners before and one time they saw him stalking a deer in the meadow. Dunno exactly what he was planning on doing if he caught the deer LOL.

You just need to have a neighbor who keeps their cats outside and make friends with him while it's on it's own property, that's what happened with Rusty. I guess he got tired of waiting for me to go over there and came over here, I give him more attention when I see him then his owners do.

How sweet! What a handsome guy!

My grandparents have ended up with 3 of their neighbor's cats over the years this way. The neighbors aren't home during the day and my grandma feeds them and talks to them, so the cats decide they like living with grandma better. :)

One thing I like about cats is they have such a sense of entitlement! Those pics are great with the background story.

LOL yeah he does seem to think he's entitled! He's also not shy about making his desires known.

I'm kind of glad that his sister Bandit isn't coming over and am thankful she's staying on her own deck. She doesn't like Shadow and will slap him for no reason. I'm wondering if she doesn't think I belong to her and is upset with Shadow for being near me, it's not because she's scared of him. Poor Shadow stands there wondering what in the heck just hit him in the face. At least she can't hurt him, the neighbors had both the cats declawed when they had them fixed.

Maybe having a kitty buddy will put a little spark in Shadow's step.

I wish people would not declaw cats, if they are going to let outside, they need those fronts for protection, and for climbing.

Cats are cool, and they surely have personalities.
Have fun with Rusty.

LOL the only way cats put a spark in Shadow's step is if he can get them to run so he can chase them. He never really played with either of my cats, just ignored them.

Yeah I hate that Rusty and Bandit are declawed, it's bad enough to declaw an indoor only cat but then to get tired of those cats shedding in the house (and yes that is the wife's reason for making them live outside) and make them live outside is horrid. Personally I'd never declaw a cat, I'd put soft paws on them, or just let them claw, but would never amputate the first digit of their toes.

Mr. Rusty visited again yesterday, this time he rubbed up against Shadow to claim him along with my mats, the deck, and me, as his very own LOL. Shadow didn't mind but I do think he's kind of confused as to why Rusty, after 7 years, has decided to claim his yard and deck:ponder: I also think Rusty wonders why I carry Shadow up and down the steps.

I did tell my neighbors that if they can't find Rusty to check with me and I asked them if they wanted visitation rights with him.

Nope, I haven't managed to convince him to come in yet. He's inching closer to the door when I have it open to check stuff out though. I wish I could hold it open longer but it's way to hot to do that.

I don't think Shadow will mind since he does know Rusty, now if I decided to try and bring a dog over that'd be a different story. The last time a dog was in the yard I didn't know he was there and I let Shadow out. I instantly heard a low growl coming from Shadow so rushed him back inside, then went back out to escort the dog out the yard. I'm just grateful that he was a nice dog, he lived down the road and had gotten out then decided to go exploring.
