Hurley :(

I had to rush Hurley to my work this morning. He had a urinary blockage. :( They were able to get him unblocked and they had to sew in a catheter. They are keeping him for a few days. Lately it's always something... Everybody keeps getting sick around here and I can't catch a break. Of course I got into a huge fight with DH about it this morning, too. DH wanted to euthanize him because he hates that cat. So I cried all the way to work. Sorry for being such a downer, but I don't have anyone else to talk to about this. :(

What a handsome boy! I hope everything will be alright. :(

I know how it feels to have no one to talk to. I don't think my parents understood how badly it affected me when I lost my cat. >.>

Oh No, DH has no business talking like that. No Way!!
I had a male cat Twink ( he loved twinkies), that had the same thing, he had the catheter. But he came out of it, yours will too. No more dry cat food, he had to have moist, but I would give him a little once in a while.
Geesh, I can't take people who want to play God just because they don't like cats, euthanizing for that reason gets my ire up.
When Hurley comes home, every month check for harness in the lower abdomen, that is a good sign it may be happening again.
And he WILL come home.
Why do men Hate cats.
Sorry if I sound angry, but I am.

Sorry to hear about your handsome Hurley, ZM. :( Here's to a speedy recovery and him going home soon. Your DH will get over it (and hopefully apologize) when he realizes how important your cat is to you. FWIW, my dad could swear up and down he doesn't like cats, but he was so wonderful with our cat we called his bluff. It brings tears to my eyes right now thinking about those two together. Perhaps your DH has some love for Hurley deep down and just won't admit it....

People that don't own cats, or never have had them, are missing a wonderful experience with this animal. They are wonderful creatures, loving, funny, and the greatest verminators I have ever seen.
It is just too bad people do not realize how important it is to spay/neuter them also.
I could go on about that one, maybe in the other pets topic.
To know one is to love one. That is all I can say at this time.

Awww...hope he gets better soon. Give hubby the silent treatment for a while. He'll realize he was being a jerk (and at the wrong time).

Thanks everyone!

I called work to see how he was doing. They said that he's still sleeping off the sedation but his urine output looks better. His pee earlier was just full of blood. They don't know if he's in kidney failure yet, we'll be doing those tests later this week. They think he might be able to come home on Thursday. I'll be working the next few days so I'll be able to visit him.

This is the third pet and third illness in the past 2 months. Hopefully I'm done now since things happen in 3's.

Zoey we went through such a rough patch...we lost one ferret on a friday suddenly, then another the following Saturday and then another one suddenly the following Friday. It was a real bad rough month. I wasn't on here much because I just couldn't see anything that may make me emotional. I was a wreck. Then a couple months later Sig, one of our cats, broke his leg and had to have expensive surgery to save it, then Chunk the dog had a lump appear that turned into an abscess then burst all over my livingroom. I always say when it rains it pours :( We are all here for you! I hope your husband realizes what he said to you, and realizes your cat has and deserves the best mom :)

OMG, that's a lot of stuff pawz!! :(

I kind of feel the same way, like I'm just so depressed right now. :( DH is just not being supportive at all. He won't apologize and still says he wants the cat gone. Ugh... he doesn't get it. It's such a frustrating situation... and I broke down balling in front of all my co-workers and it was extremely embarrassing.

oh no! i'm sorry that happened! i totally get you on that... (((hugs))) keep us posted on hurley!
Thanks!! I will for sure. :)

All of my other furkids have been looking for Hurley.. :(

Update.

I went in to work this morning and they told me that Hurley pulled his catheter out. :( They are keeping an eye on him to see if he can urinate on his own or if he blocks again. If he blocks again they have to sedate him and redo everything they did yesterday. Right now he's on pain medicine and ace to keep him relaxed. Also they gave him more sub q fluids.

((((HUGS)))) I'm so sorry that Hurley is going through so much, and your DH isn't being supportive. I'm praying that he keeps peeing on his own.

I know what you mean about breaking down in front of everyone, I did that at the vets when I took Shadow in after he had his stroke. Didn't help that I had lost Jersey less then a year before that. I can take bad news about my own health, but let one of my furbabies get sick......

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate everything.

Here's the latest update:

I just talked to my boss who is my actual vet not the vet that started the treatment on Hurley. He is so great!! So reassuring and everything. He said that they didn't put the catheter back in and that Hurley is peeing on his own and keeping his bladder small. They offered him some food and he ate a little bit. They are still very worried that he could re-block because he really needed to keep that catheter in. So he has to stay at the vet for a few more days. They are keeping him very comfortable and he's doing okay for now. They even let him out to wander around the clinic for a little bit. They are taking really good care of him. :)

Today's Hurley update: He's doing really good. He's eating and he's gotten more sub q fluids. They did not put the catheter back in. He is spending another night at work because he's peeing a lot and the Dr. thinks it's because his bladder is still pretty irritated. So they want to continue to monitor him. Hurley looks like he's feeling better. I took Zoe to visit him and she cleaned his ears. :D

Hurley is HOME!! Yay!! He's on 3 different meds and the Dr. wants me to do the RX diet for the next month to make sure any other crystals get dissolved. He has to have another urinalysis in 2 weeks. He is going to be locked in the bathroom for the next few days until his bladder calms down. I put his bed and blankets in there along with his food/water. The techs told me that he had really bad diarrhea this morning, he made a giant mess for them.. Thank goodness I decided to take them cookies as a Thank you!!! :D LOL I gave him a bath before bringing him home, poor boy was just covered in pee.
