A fun but informative video about things you shouldn't feed your dog.

We have looked into carob chocolate before, we know of many people who give it to their dogs. It smells and tastes a lot like chocolate but it isn't chocolate or harmful to dogs at all. One thing we read prevented us from using carob chocolate for Caeda. Someone said (on a forum that I can't recall, and I hope I can explain it properly), that if you feed your dog the chocolate, they will associate the smell and taste with being "dog treat", if your dog ever goes anywhere near REAL chocolate, you wouldn't want them to think it is a dog food....so its better to associate the taste and smell of all chocolate with "NO" rather than with "Good Dog". I hope that makes sense....

It actually doesn't smell or taste like chocolate - at least without heavily processing carob so it's unrecognizable and then comparing it to chocolate that has been so heavily processed as to be unrecognizable.

Also, coming from someone who has spent several hours making several dogs throw up, dogs recognise chocolate as food (and yummy food at that) with or without carob flavour dog treats. My second poodle consistently got into chocolate even though he associated it with hydrogen peroxide followed by an hour next to the toilet.

I've never personally tasted the stuff....smelled it once, but it was mixed in with other treats so kind of hard to tell the smells apart. I've been told there is some comparison, although you have a good point it may have been thoroughly processed....
Hydrogen peroxide and vomiting yuck!!! I'd just read the commend elsewhere about the association and figured hey....might be a possibility so why risk it. As for the safety of carob, I've never heard of any problems unless of course the dog has some kind of allergy.

Poor dog, I can sympathize, I used to use HP as a pre brush whitener before brushing my pearly whites, well long story short, I swallowed some one day accidently -.- *-*.

Have never given doggie chocolate... Or anything else that looks like a human food, dont want them to get the taste of it, you know?
