Hello,
I am planning to getting a new dog by the end of this year or early next year. My main reference has been English Pointer however I am also leaning toward German shorthaired Pointer because of how playful they look, There are lot's of videos on them than there is on English Pointer or on English setter. Continuously watching those video German pointer has grown on me.
I am watching training videos and the reason I am starting this thread is because I couldn't find any video on these (Bird Dogs) on SAR training.
I just wanted to who from this community how easy it is to training them in SAR and in fetching and retrieving.
After 2 months of searching I found a kennel club in the next city where "English setter" and " Pointer" is mentioned on his score card. I asked him about German pointer too and he said he could get one If i inform him in advance however I think he had it confused with Pointer. I am planning on calling him again with a different number to cross check.
Also I have heard that English Pointer are not that smart as German pointer or German Shepherd. Is that correct?
German shepherd has been my last resort since I started planning on getting a dog. I will get a working line GSD.
I am training them SAR for any professional reasons. I am training them for them so that I can provide that mental exercise they need. I have a hill right in front of my house which people use for hiking. I can take them there and they can easily run for 1-2 hours.
I am looking for an active. playful, energetic ( but not too much), smart, Good in following commands and learning new commands, Good in SAR, Mischievous , Affectionate, Loyal, Amiable.
Which of them will be a good choice? ( and I don't hunt or will be hunting)
