his name is Simba. He is over 10 yrs old by estimate.

he no longer has that shine of life in his eyes. they are just dull and lifeless , no longer plays or runs. hard time making it to litter box. his once beautiful blue eyes are just so dang dull. I wish he would pass in his sleep where he is comfortable instead of me having to take him to the vet and him be in a strange place for those remaining minutes of his life. its going to be so damn hard on my kids not to mention sirus.

I know what you are going through I'm in the midst of having to make that decision myself about my 11yr old Lhasa. he's diabetic and now incontinant he no longer does anything except sleep and is not happy like he once was he has gone down hill fast and the diabetes has caused him to loose most of his eyesight. we will be going through this thanksgiving then making a decision this weekend until then he will be loved hugged and eat lots of turkey. this is the 2nd time and I keep backing out I just cant imagine him gone :( but I feel I am being selfish.
I guess we just need to do whats right for them and try to find a way to be at peace with the decision. I wish I new how.

Yes, this was my thought too!
Perhaps he is ill in some way? Kitties can be healthy well into their teens. Maybe you could take him for a check up and have the vet run the standard CBC / chemistries and see if he has anything show up.

Edit... ooopse... Oh, my, I just see this post is old.... I guess what ever happened, happened already?
Sorry to hear about your old boy....

sorry i never got back to you guys. he is still kicking. i ended up getting a larger litter box so he doesnt miss it as often. tried to change food to a canned but he wont have none of it. Changed to a hair ball remedy food for his yacking. Vet said he is healthy but is skinny, no worms just skinny, said he may not have had the best start to life. oh and my vet said the estimate of 10 is a few years off he is closer to 13.

he has taken to stealing the mittens and scarves lately and dragging them upstairs.

Well that's good news! I felt pretty stupid this morning after posting, not having seen this is an old thread... and if you had put the cat down already... and I was saying get him checked... well you get what I'm saying!

Did the vet do any blood tests?

Yes, my cat won't eat canned either, just the kitty freetos junk food.

Thirteen starts to be an elderly boy for sure.

no blood tests this time as 6 months prior we did some blood test. my vet said if he hadnt improved with the hair ball formula then bring him back in. he feels a tad bit fatter but he is always going to be lean.

my parents siamese was 18 when she passed away.

Have you considered changing his food. That may be the culprit.

Before I changed Puddles's food a few years ago, I thought she was on her last legs. Blood work showed nothing, but she was loosing muscle mass, fur was greasy and thinning. She was vomiting more and more. Changed her food to quality canned and raw and she acts like a two year old (except cranky ). She is no longer lethargic, her fur is beautiful, no vomiting
