ok, so... i just checked fawke's food dish, and noticed that his food was still in it, uneaten... this isn't completely unusual since he is on a raw diet, he will have days where he just eats less than others, and i've had the heat turned up cuz it's so cold outside. i know that he was trying to steal the dog's food (a regular thing for him since he LOVES kibble)

i've been busy today, with homework and stuff, so i haven't been paying direct attention to him. he also normally likes to lay behind me, on the back of the chair and groom himself, but i just realized, he has been sorta smacking his lips. when i reached back to give him scratches under his chin, i noticed it looked funny, but it didn't register until i touched him and he got mad at me.

turns out, the front part of his chin is swollen. i can poke around his head and face, without protest, so long as i don't put pressure on that area. *fingers crossed* my boss gives me time off to take him in to the vet in the morning, but in the mean time, anyone have any ideas on it?

the most plausible thing i can think of is an abscess/infected tooth, but though his teeth aren't great, they aren't terrible either, last exam (a few months ago) the vet said that he had a little gingivitis, but that was all... his teeth have actually gotten better, since i started the raw diet. my other thought was that something got stuck in the gum? maybe a bone sliver or something from his food... does that sound crazy?

anyway, any suggestions will be welcome, making my list of questions and such for the vet tomorrow.

anyone who has a magic wand, who wants to magically fix it, i won't object to that either ;)

thank you... i definitely will!

i'm trying to do some searches and i found this pic:

almost identical, but fawkes' isn't nearly that severe... if you didn't know him, you might not even notice. heck, i didn't notice til just now!

the interwebz said that cat skin is too thick for most spiders to bite? but if he bit the spider, and it bit him, in the front of his mouth? maybe that skin is thinner? makes more sense to be a bite then an abscess though...

thoughts on stuff i can do to help him be more comfy til tomorrow?

hmmm i've been thinking about doing it, i have 25mg pills... not sure i could split them small enough? he's 12lbs... that's 6mg at .5mg per lb? i know in dogs that too much, once, isn't terribly dangerous... what about cats?

hmm... maybe i should give him more for tonight? i have him 1/4 pill, so about 6mg... but he is just over 12lbs....

so sad and cute at the same time, i gave him a kitty treat, and hem couldn't eat it, so i offered him some softer stuff, and he kept trying to eat, then turning to me, purring and talking, not cussing... :( he managed to get a li'l bit of beef juice down though.. he is hungry and can drink!
