I feel a bit bad…
We have the kind of cat where you'll trip over her and she'll bonk her head on the wall (has happened) and she meows and rubs on you for it. I.E. all human attention = good. This is is normally great since I don't like to use aversives and she isn't scared of anything much. However getting her to stay away from our Christmas tree has been a pain. Despite clicker training her every day near it for leaving it alone, she still wants to play all over the thing (I think it's just too tempting/shiny). Making a psst noise doesn't work, moving her away doesn't work, throwing socks at her doesn't work. In every case, she thinks we're playing or just looks at us like "really?", which is kind of funny.
So finally I broke down and got Ssscat that is motion sensitive and shoots out a loud hiss of water/air. I do feel bad because it's the one thing that she does get scared of, and she looks really incensed and disturbed after it sprays at her. It's also a little funny to watch.
