What a beautiful bear so lucky anyone who has them around them
We have a lot of bears nearby......less than 5 miles from my house.

Not surprised in the slightest, black bears dont want to fight. Id feel safe enough living with bears around me and a dog but id be very aware and nervous living with yotes around me with a dog
The problem here is before the fall season when the Bears are foraging for food and the Pickens are slim in the nearby Toyabie National forest where they live (Lake Tahoe area).
They come down into town and go for the garbage containers. Our animal control is very humane and try to tranquilize them and return them to the forest.

Our town always has a bit of a bear problem every spring because people refuse to just put their garbage cans out the morning of pickup instead leave them out the night before. Bears are smart and soon learn where they can get a free meal. Unfortunately if they become a nuisance they are inclined to put them down.

They look similar to our green ones, but ours just snaps shut without that locking mechanism. The plastic on ours, while pretty tough, would never stop a bear. They use much heavier cans up at Lake Tahoe where bears are very common trash can raiders.
