So when I left Illinois I had to leave my precious girl Bella behind..

I left knowing I might not ever see her again, but also with the peace of mind that she would at least be taken care of for she was staying with my parents.

When I entered Texas, I met Marti who has become my best friend, my companion, and my whole world just like Belle was..

When he was given to me I swore I would do everything to make sure he's happy, healthy, and loved.

Well now comes the time for me to get my own place and I'm making sure every apartment or townhome that I look into allows dogs and does not have a maximum weight limit.

When talking to my mom just recently I was telling her the difference between two different homes that her and I were looking at. For one of them I said, "Well if I went with this one I wouldn't be able to take Marti with me, and the other one I would."

Mom said, "Well I was hoping you wouldn't take him because we were thinking about giving Belle to you, and if you take Marti I won't give her to you because that would be too much stress on you."

So now I have to choose between Belle or Marti. Both are looking to be rehomed, both I am deeply in love with, and both are very very attached to me.

I really don't know what to do I wish I could take them both but mom's right..I can't handle two dogs. :(

You can't handle two dogs or you can't afford two dogs? Just curious. I've noticed having two dogs around is'nt much different than having one. It's also great because when I am busy they have each other to play with. You will pay more in food although Belle is just a little girl so it wouldn't even be that much of a difference probably. I would at least keep Marti as he is living with you now, and that wouldn't really be fair to discard him now. If you don't take Belle what are your parents going to do with her?

I can't afford two dogs is what I mean.

Mom said that they're looking to rehome her if I don't take her. :( I wouldn't be discarding Marti he would just stay with the family who gave him to me, (who is also the family that I live with now). But because they're moving they are going to rehome him eventually if I don't take him. Ugh I really hate having to choose one or the other..

Hmm I don't know what to tell you. Why does your family all of a sudden want to rehome belle? I hope something works out and you can at least find a good home for whichever one has to be re-homed.

Wow, that's crazy. In my opinion those sounds like good qualities in a dog. I think that somebody would really love to adopt Belle. I do rescue, and especially older couples are normally really interested in the smaller sized dogs. I will be honest that I think Belle seems more adoptable than Marti simply because of her small size. Not to mention Poodles are a really popular dog. Maybe you could try calling a local rescue in your area to see if they would take her in, maybe even a poodle rescue if there is one.

All things considered, I think Belle would have a better chance at finding a good home than Marti would. I bet she'd make a fantastic companion for some little old lady or something. People like little dogs- they're nearly always the first to go in shelters after puppies. (Not recommending sending her to a shelter or anything, just saying it probably wouldn't be too hard to find a good home for her).

Both dogs need and love you and you love both dogs. I don't see the delema unless the place you are moving is only allowing one dog. You can handle two dogs. The two dogs will keep each other company when you are not home and give you lots of company when you are. I say take them both!

If you absolutely can't, Bella will be the easiest to find a home for (without the silly dress though...LOL!) One ad in the paper looking for a good home (charge 50.00 to keep away the ner do wells) and she'll be gone!

So I decided to keep Marti.

Basically one of the things I was looking at is that one of them might very well go to a shelter and in Illinois where Belle is..the local shelter is a no-kill shelter..

In the town where Marti is..the local shelter is a kill shelter that only goes by 3 weeks then euthanize.

Also, Belle would come with a rather expensive grooming bill..whereas Marti only requires bathe and brush.

Plus I kind of find it hard to believe my mom will give up Belle to just any random person so easily so..if she's rehomed I have a feeling she'll got my sisters or my aunts.

I'm so glad you decided to keep Marti.
I didn't want to say anything before because I know it must be a tough situation, one you shouldn't have been put in really.
Great choice.....I'm so relieved for Marti and look forward to you sharring many more of your Adventures with him.

PS....If you cant find him, check under the bed.....lol

Personally knowing all you've been thru with Belle I'm surprised you're even asking this question. I'm even MORE surprisesd that your parents, who put up such a strong arguement that you wern't allowed to take Belle with you are now looking to get rid of her. EXTREMELY disappointing on all angles, and not an easy situation to be in. Good luck with this one.

^^THIS!! I agree! I remember the emotional "drama"...I understand the need to move & such, ..I can also understand the want of a "new buddie", BUT,..you could have been reunited w/Belle, &...you dropped the ball?...This thread is old, I can't help but wonder where she is NOW? Did at least your sister take her in?
