Siamese eating too fast

Hi guys does anyone perhaps have some advice for me on how to help my boy Siamese eat slower? We mostly feed Royal Canin Siamese which is specially donut shaped forcing him to eat slowly, but the moment we buy any other type of cat food, e.g Royal Canin Hairball control which is not donut shaped he eats too much too fast and promptly gives it back.! I would love to buy him a slow feeder bowl, but I just don't have the money right now. Here in RSA a plastic one costs R300. If anyone knows how to make one, I'd be open to any ideas. Just please bear in mind he's one of four cats, free fed. Not perfect by any means, but so far it's been working for us.

Gingersnaps and Kmes, thanks for the ideas. I will definitely be trying out some of those ideas. Gingersnaps, your mention of putting a smaller bowl or cup into a bigger one sparked a memory. I still had in storage what was sold to me as a puppy starter bowl. A bowl with a raised middle so puppies can't climb into the bowl with all four feet. I'm going to be trying it for a while and see how it goes. Combined with some of those puzzle feeders. Might even be helpful in keeping them a little busy Sunday while we have the whole family over for dinner.

Just a small plea, please consider changing food, royal canin is not high quality cat food at all, it contains far too much maize and wheat and not enough proper protein....
With regards to eating, I found scatting food on a tray helped my cat slow down a bit.

Matrix, I know R/C isn't the best there is. But it's the best I can afford at the moment. I would love to switch to Orijen or some such grain free food, but that's just way above my budget.
Thanks for the tray idea. Will definately keep it in mind.

Have you looked into Fromm's food? They have a grain free line and I think they are along the same price point as RC, not quite as high as Orijen. My cat loves this one

Tiggerbounce, no i'm in South Africa. At the moment, just bought new bags R/C yestersday, it was about R380 odd. Dad worked it out at about R70 a kilo. I am still looking into other foods, but the affordable ones unfortunately all contain grain. He is slowly learning to slow down, I am slowly introducing foods that aren't "siamese shaped":) so far not too much of it has been coming back up again.
