Was there any mention of hyperkeratosis being a possibility? It might be worth another visit to the vet, perhaps even a veterinary dermatologist, so you can get a proper diagnosis.

That's a question for a vet, which I am not. My understanding is there can be different underlying causes, and treatment depends on the cause. You should reach out to a vet for a proper diagnosis; my guess might be totally wrong.

 

Have you had any blood work done on him? I would get some run if not, just to make sure there is nothing going on systemically to cause this. What does his everyday diet look like?

 

No blood work has been done. He eats Purina one lamb and rice. We have a vet appointment Tuesday so hopefully they will run some labs. Thanks for the reply.
