Hi all, I just found this forum today after my old dog forum became an "attack site" once again. Over the last 3 days it gave me FOURTEEN trojans! Woo! Anyway, I look forward to getting to know everyone here and contributing to this wonderful dog forum!

A little about myself, I have two wonderful dogs, Zoey and Maggie. Zoey is a Lhasa Apso and Maggie is a Lhasa/Bichon mix. They are the best dogs anyone could ask for. Zoey is my heart dog, and Maggie is my husbands. :) Zoey and I started doing Obedience classes last spring, she passed with flying colors and it was a TON of fun. We will be doing the next level this fall and I will hopefully be able to convince my husband to take Maggie to the beginners. It's such a great experience!

I work for my local Humane Society, doing it all. It is the best job in the world and I hope to be able to do it for many years to come. It is the first job that I have had where I actually ENJOY going to work and doing extra things on the side. It has made me a much happier person.

I also enjoy gardening, and am currently growing cucumbers, pumpkins, squash, tomatoes, chives, rhubarb, parsley, basil, oregano and TONS of flowers. I also started my first compost bin this year!

Here are some pictures of my gilrls:

Hi! Welcome. I recognize you for DF (I lurk occasionally) :) there are a few refugees here. I hope you enjoy it here :)

Iam quite the garden geek myself, what are you growing this year veggie wise that you'd recommend? Iam still a noob at the veggies.

Tomatoes, or Cukes. I am getting TREMENDOUS yields from both! I am fairly new to vegetable gardening as well, this is only my second year growing them. Next year I am hoping to start some lettuce, I had some out of my friends garden this year and it was WONDERFUL, store bought lettuce doesn't even come close :( I wish I had started some this year.

What are you growing??

If you like veggies, by gosh, plant carrots, string beans, and sugar-snap peas.

HEAVEN.

All three are GREAT for just eating off the plant (if you're organic), 'cept for a rinse with the carrots.

Can't even BEGIN to describe the taste difference between home grown and store bought on these three.

Also love: Bell Peppers, Banana Peppers, Watermelon (lots of room), and even did rhubarb one year (also lots of room). Found out I don't like it unless it's in a good rhubarb pie...oh well. Oh! and Corn! Sweet corn though, make sure you don't get horse corn (this was prevalent back in PA...not sure about out here).

Hmm...what else have I grown that I loved...Pumpkins are good fun, but I don't eat them, 'cept in pie, and I'm trying not to eat pie, so I won't grow them. I dated a girl who LOVED zucchini one year, so we grew that, she loved it (I hate it, unless it's in Zucchini bread...is there a pattern here?).

That's all for now, I guess.

Edit: Asparagus! This is difficult, and you may have to spend the previous year preparing your soil - google it - but WELL worth the effort. Oh - and once it takes root and you begin to harvest it, it's SO hard to kill...it'll just keep coming back...and SOOOO good.

You might want to try adding some calcium to the soil around your larger tomato plants next year. I read that if there isn't enough calcium in your soil the tomato fruit structure won't be strong enough to support it or something and they may rot.
ooooOoo...good to know...Thanks! :)
