My baby is too fat!

Spanky's vet told me he had to lose a little weight. Not easy when he lives for food! He's 13.5 lbs and should be about 10 lbs. Are fresh green beans fattening? I'm thinking of using these for treats instead of regular treats. Does anyone have any suggestion for a diet? I'm thinking of cutting back on his food and adding walking since he doesn't get much exercise. Thanks!

If your dog likes green beans enough for you to use them as treats, that's one thing you can do. They are certainly not fattening.
Try other vegetables as well, as long as they are good for dogs. (you can look this up online)
My dogs love carrots and one of them also likes celery and kale. I had a foster dog once who would work hard for a piece of lettuce!

In addition, cut back on the amount of food you are giving her. Not drastically, just a little tiny bit, since she is a small dog She probably won't notice, and you don't want her to lose weight too fast in any case.

And most of all, take her for longer walks. Exercise is the best way to lose extra weight. Much better than diet, for dogs and people both.

finally, you can check the fat percentage of the food you are giving her, and perhaps choose one that is lower in fat. But avoid those "diet" foods because often they are not nutritionally sound.

Than you. Yes, he loves green beans and cauliflower. I'm giving him a yery small amount as a treat. I'm cutting back on the amount of food also. Praying it works!

I am no pro to watching dog's weight, actually I mean I wasn't because I let my 1st pup get 5lbs overweight (small dog).

Now with my newest pup, I feel his ribs and waist/hips for excess fat often. If I feel he putting on some weight, I reduce food portion by the tiniest amount, he doesn't really seem to notice, especially if I give him a few extra kibbles (from a different company as treats) afterward.

I always take him for a big walk in the morning, but maybe I'll go a bit longer or take for 2 or 3 walks. He always seems to drop the weight in about a week or so, but he's young and I keep a close eye.

Also I adjust his food portion for how many treats/extras I think he'll get throughout the day. Like on the weekends, he'll usually get more treats, kongs ect, so he'll eat less regular food. The amounts are adjusted in the slightest.

Thanks. I'm going to start taking him for walks. I'm sure this will help him.
