Ok I am new to dog forum. I am having puppy trouble. I have a puppy and I have had her for a few months and she is now 5 months old. I have recently had to leave her for short periods of time to go to work and she just barks and cries and wakes my room mate up. She does good with letting me know when she needs to go outside so this is not a potty training issue. I have tried the alarm clock a stuffed animal all her toys and a piece of my clothing. I also give her a treat to reward her for getting in her crate. She also has her food and water. She simply does not like to be alone and I do not know what to do to stop the barking any more. My room mate has decided that she is just going to let her out when she is barking so she can sleep and I know that is bad but do I really have any other options?

if she knows your roomate is home she will bark for attention. she must learn that barking will not get her attention. Make sure your roomate doesnt give in to her barking when you are gone or will be difficult to break this habit. My puppy used to do this and one of the roomates would usually give in to him. it was very hard to get everyone on board with "ignoring" him, but that should fix it, eventually. Be patient : )

Sounds as if the dogs BASIC needs are being met. I wonder though...does your roomie think that by just "giving up" on the pup in the kennel is REALLY going to be the BEST option for how the pup handles the future?? Seems as if the roomie is a tad bit "sleepy", &, is in NO condition to help train a young pup!! *I forsee BAD things coming your way*...Perhaps I am wrong (I hope)...but, still, just for trainings sake..letting a whining dogout of a kennel to do NOTHING CONSTRUCTIVE?? = pup getting its way DUE to whining, &, pup is now in "control"..due to sleepy persons perspective...:( GAH!! I say this,-let the pup settle, make sure it doesn't have to potty, give the pup a chew, & go from there...NEVER let the pup out if the pup is going bananas! Just wait a few seconds or more for the up to settle & calm down...THEN, reward by opening the door!
