Sounds very strange., what do you mean he is on special lab food?

Bring 6 months, he could easily just be doing a coat change. loosing his puppy fur and now growing a adult coat.

 

Thursday night my dog fell into my (horse) trainers pond, being labrador he was intrigued and wanted a drink, then fell in. He had a complete blast while in there, trashed her beautiful pond, ruined plants but didnt harm the fish. We caught him 5 minutes later btw lol, we didnt see this, he couldnt get back out!!

Help!! What do I do to get it back?! He is on a special labrador formula that helps with his coat, and he only goes to the groomers once a month. Brushing daily? Any add ins?

If you have this in your horse stuff its great on doggie coats (Mane 'n Tail Conditioner). Sounds like the stuff they used just dried out the fur so moisturize it.

 

tankstar--> He is on Royal Canin lab puppy, their food is amazing, it truly is formulated for my lab =) It helps with his coat, ive read all their pamphlets, booklets and books on the science behind it. Considering his coat was just fine the day before, id say its not the adult coat change.

Dawnben-->So should I wash him (normal Bio Groom oatmeal formula) then put in the conditioner? Im worried id make him too oily or sticky or gross.

 

I would just do the conditioner it sounds like his coat is dry enough. Just make sure and rinse really well and his coat wont be oily.

 

Royal canin really isnt a great food. its just a over hyp and over priced food. but to each their own, I wouldnt waste my money on it. Id honestly look at dogfoodanazlysis website. youll learn alot.

I'd give hima bathe and see what happens. Might just be the stuff thats int he pong for the fish that makes the coat look off.

 

I hate dogfoodanalysis,com, it looks at only one aspect of dog food. If I ate bacon & eggs for breakfast, KFC for lunch, panda express orange chicken for dinner, id still be low carb, high protein. I have been to Wal Mart and seen a dog food I had never heard of before, it would have scored 5 stars with DFA, but I would never buy dog food from Wal Mart. Ever. Nutrition, both human and animal, is my strong point and I have done a lot, lot, LOT of research before I chose what I did for Jax. I still do, which is why I chose to do a tiny mix of raw in with his kibble.

Thanks everyone for suggestions though!! Ill try a few things with him, his coat is starting to perk up a teeny bit.

Sure glad Im not feeding somthing like that for a average lab they say feed 5-61/2 cups a day, that is insane. My dog is the same size as a lab. Id cry if I had to feed him that much lol No wonder why so many labs are over weight

 

Agree with you there. Mine is bigger than a lab and he doesn't even need that much.

 

I know, that I agree with lol! I feed per vet recommendations, which is 4 cups a day total...and he's still skinny right now lol. I'm sure as an adult we will cut down Food recommendations are ridicolous; he's on Natures Variety raw too and if I feed HALF of what the recommend he gains 5lbs week which is too much. He should be 2-3lbs a week, which I would feed maybe a quarter.

I agree rinsing with a conditioner is best, it sounds like the shampoo overly dried out his coat

I chickened out, one of the ladies from his groomers came in today for business and I complained so they are accommodating him tomorrow.

 

Hope his coat is all back to normal now!
A great thing for keeping coats looking amazing is Omega 3. I use Fish4dogs SOS salmon oil in Milo's food, and we're always getting compliments about how great his coat looks
