so, i've been doing a bit of searching on the interwebz... not a very thorough one mind you, but a search none-the-less, for a cat equivalent of the canine calming signals... does anyone have any info on anything like that?

I don't have anything official, but as far as observations, I notice that our dogs and cats understand each other perfectly.

Our dogs tend to be rather tough on the cats, often chasing them or playing pretty rough. However the cats are usually in pretty good control of the situation.
For example, the cats do give "calming signals" similar to the dogs' CS, including yawns, body postures, look aways and so forth. I've even seen our cats lie on their sides or backs and get the dogs to calm down by doing this.

Fawkese how funny bc we recently had to do a training on cat signals and they are very similar to dogs but IMO more obvious! Ear positions are key! Puffy tail is equivalent to raised hair on the back, eyes dilated vs not, trying to hide is clear lol etc etc. I do not know of any books or signs.,..I will try and find one now tho lol

thanks for the replies everyone... :)

i definitely spend a lot of time watching how the dogs and fawkes interact and looking for similarities and differences... i recently read an article about it too, about how different some of the communications are, yet they often still learn how to get along with each other. i really like the way that calming signals presents the info for dogs, but couldn't ever find a cat equivalent, will definitely check out the book that zoesmom linked to!
