Kirkland (Costco) for new Lagotto Puppy

We have a 9.5 week old Lagotto Romagnolo puppy, Leo! He came from the breeder eating Royal Canin puppy development food, which we are getting close to finished with. So now we need to decide where to go food wise.

His stools have been a little soft so we would love something to help firm them up.

We originally were thinking Fromm or Taste of the Wild, however the breeder was actually feeding her adult dogs Kirkland (Costco) brand and because of how cheap it is, and that it is supposedly very good quality, we would love to feed Leo that.

However, we want to do what is best for him and if something pricier is better we would go with it over Kirkland.

Wanted to hear what the opinion is here of the Kirkland food and if it is a high quality food that will work for our Leo!

I feed kirkland's food because of the price range I have, it's not a terrible quality but I don't think I would say high quality. If you go that route, try nature's domain first-the plastic bags over the regular chicken or lamb and rice. I found my dog did slightly better on those for stool quality than the others. Be careful to not buy treats from Kirkland, though, as they've had problems recently. I like the brand 'Northern' which is new here in Canada-cheapest treats with the best ingredients. All the good pet stores are stocking up on them.

Kirkland's is a pretty good food. My dog did not do well on it it gave my hound very bad gas. Try the puppy food and see how your pup does on it. If it works for your pup keep feeding it if not come back and we will be happy to recommend others.

As everyone here already known, I'm a big fan of Fromm. All my dogs have done well on their foods right from the basic (purple bag) right on up to the 4 star grain free. You really can't go wrong. Just be very slow in your transition from the Royal Canin though to avoid any tummy troubles.

I would consult with your breeder on what they think would be the best choice.

Also be careful when you order the food from Amazon. I do it and the last 2 bags I have gotten had holes in them. The customer service is great about reimbursing, but th first one I didn't find out about until later (Fiance mentioned it a few days after her poured it into their bin). I will still order from them, just check the bag over before you feed it.

I've found that many breeders have superstitious beliefs about dog food. I looked at the breed info and it didn't mention anything about this breed producing lanolin. The breed does have a waterproof undercoat. So do many retrievers. I fed high protein to my working Labs without causing their coats to be less waterproof.
