So my cat, KC is 20 years old. He was brought home the week I was born and I have had him ever since. We have done NOTHING special with him. No vitamins (until lately) no special food, NOTHING. Besides the annual shots we take him in for, he has had no treatment. i am worried because I know he has to be on his last life. But what signs could I look for to cancer, kidney failure, or any other common old cat death issues.

Look those over. :)

FWIW, our cat was very low maintenance health care wise throughout his life until he was about 16 to 16 1/2. By the time he passed away at 17 1/2, he had half a dozen issues that developed pretty fast and kind of snowballed until we needed to put him to sleep. So keep your eye on your cat and check him over daily.

Also, we switched him over to better quality food when he was a senior and saw a lot of improvements energy wise.

ETA: Congrats on having such an old kitty, BTW! It is amazing how long we get to spend with some of our pets.

I checked those articles while watching my cat eat and he seems to be fine, none of them fit him. the only issue he has is a small cyst that is on his neck. it has never gotten bigger nor smaller. We had the vet check it years ago and she said it was just common with old age. None of the Cancerous symptoms fit him either. He had a HORRIBLE abscess a few months ago (it was under his thick hair in the middle of winter, so we didn't see it) and i stumbled over him in the dark one night and I am not exaggerating, I will bet a good 16 oz of bloody puss spilled out of my cats hind quarter onto my kitchen floor. I thought he was rectally bleeding and went into hysterics and my sister came over (she's a nurse) and shaved the area where we found a lemon sized hole that reached from his tail down to his thigh. ANYWAYS, the point of my story is that, after getting him on antibiotics, he healed within 6 days and the scab was the size of a lemon SEED! I don't know why i decided to share that, but it was scary.

Our family had a cat like that :) Kari lived to be 21. She was given to my mom before I was born. Apparently, the story goes:

Mom: "Kitten or Baby?"
*Kitten appears*
Mom: "Yay! Kitty! Guess what."
*Baby QuestsMom appears*

of course that is a very abridged version, but...lol
