I was walking Sadie today and found a kitten! Well, Sadie found him. He is a little orange tabby and very fluffy. We found him on the side of the road with his dead sibling. I picked him up, dropped Sadie off at home, stuck the kitten in my purse with a towel and took him to the vet. The vet said he has a broken pelvis! He walks very strange. Thankfully, he still has feeling in his back legs. He also has a giant hernia. His bladder was in the hernia. The vet said it was life threatening. So, I told the vet to go ahead and do the surgery. If they didn't, he would have died from all the urine and bowel being outside his body wall. His body was all deflated from where his organs should have been. After the surgery, the vet told me that it was mostly bladder in the hernia. All his tissue was bruised. I think he was probably hit by a car. I got to see him after surgery and his belly looked normal. The vet told me there are a lot of things that can go wrong. He isn't sure if the body wall will hold.

I just wanted to update the 5 people who have read this on how the kitten (Sawyer) is doing. He has been on antibiotics and pain medication. Today he woke up with a big lump where he had his surgery for his hernia. So, the vet has done an ultrasound. The abdominal wall is still solid. All his organs are where they should be. His intestines are back up in his abdomen where they should be. The big pouch on his belly is just fluid. The giant hernia apparently created a lot of dead space when they put it back in. All the connective tissue was damaged. He is already peeing and pooping on his own! The vet was very worried that he wouldn't be able to. He's eating, he's happy, he's actually purring! Right now he's doing really well. He still has a lot of swelling, so we will see what happens over the next few days. We're not going to do anything drastic. The vet is just going to give him anti-inflammatory medication, pain medication and antibiotics. He's a very happy, pain-free little kitten right now.

this kitty was so fortunate that you found him and was willing to go through all of this cost and trouble. gives me a lump in my throat. So glad he is doing good and looks like he is going to pull through!

Not sure how I missed this, but kudos in helping out the kitten. I hope there will be an update soon.
