Post your home-made dog toys ect. ideas here!!

Heres one of mine Miley loves!
I take old shirts or blankets and cut strips out of them. I tie them at the top and braid them. Then you have a recycled toy your doggie will enjoy! :p (Sorry, I will post pictures soon, my camera is messed up)

This is such a cooool idea, Mahalo for sharing. My fur babies enjoy the rope toys that we buy them but now we can recycle old clothing, blankets , etc.. and make our own.....

I dont have pictures but its so simple that you can picture it. I ties old socks together that have gotten holes, its her favorite toy. She loves playing tug, and just chewing on it, she also likes to roll around with it and wrap her self up with it. Dont worry though, its only a supervised toy as i dont want it to get wrapped around her neck.

Ziva has developed an absolute love of an empty water bottle inside a sock. I'll be darned if I'm going to fork out the $$$ they want for an empty water bottle in a cutesy cover at the pet store, lol.

Homemade flirtpole.
Old leather belt = cut into 3 pieces 12 inches each, punch a hole in the end of each piece.
Bungee= 1ft. or longer ,take off metal ends.
Rope = soft clothes line, about 6 ft. or better.
6 ft. PVC pipe or a old broom handle or rack handle. Drill hole in one end.
Thread the bungee through the 3 holes in the belt pieces and tie off, tie the other end of the bungee to the soft rope, thread the rope through the hole in pole and tie off.
Dog will have fun chasing the belt pieces as you make long circular sweeping patterns and when the dog gets it, the bungee will create a little tug of war action.
You can be creative and put a old piece of leather or old jeans at the end of the pole for you dog to chase and grab.
You want to teach your dog to drop it on command, or sit and leave it until you give the command to chase it.

My dogs love homemade peanut butter snaps and they are easy to make, just take some time.

1 egg
1 c natural peanut butter
1c whole wheat flour.

mix , roll out like a pie crust, bake at 225 until nearly crisp (1-2 hours). Cool (they get more crisp as they cool). Break into whatever size bites suit your dog.

For humans, remove the flour, add once C sugar and bake at 350 apx 15 mins - gluten free PB cookies :)

Here are some recipes for your Kongs

CHEESY ELVIS:
Combine a ripe banana, 3 spoonfuls of peanut butter, and a slice of cheese. Mix until blended well. Fill the Kong and freeze.

MONSTER MASH
Instant mashed potatoes (without the salt) -- or leftover mashed potatoes from dinner -- mixed with crushed dog biscuits.

DOGGIE OMLET:
Combine a scrambled egg, some beef, yogurt, cheese and mashed potatoes all together

BANANA YOGURT:
Plain yogurt and mashed bananas. (You can also add a little peanut butter or other fruits.) Then freeze it

PEANUT BUTTER GLUE:
Fill Kong 1/3rd full of dog food. Pour in melted peanut butter (after it has cooled from microwaving). Add more dog food, followed by more melted peanut butter until the Kong toy is full. Freeze until solid.

APPLE PIE:
Squeeze a small piece of apple into the tiny hole. Fill the Kong with a small amount of plain yogurt. Add a few slices of mashed banana, more apple, yogurt, banana. End with a slice of banana and chunk of peanut butter on the top.

CRUNCH 'N MUNCH:
Combine crumbled rice cakes and dried fruit with some cream cheese and plain croutons.

CHEEZY DELIGHT:
Combine small chunks of cheese (or cheese spread) with some dry dogfood and microwave until the cheese melts. Let it cool completely, then pour into the Kong toy. Freeze thoroughly.

PUPPY TRAIL:
Fill the Kong with some cashews (unsalted) and freeze-dried liver bits. Add some dry dog food and/or dog crushed dog biscuits and some Cheerios. Drop in a spoonful of peanut butter, followed by some dried fruit. Finally, top it off by using a piece of ravioli or tortellini to close the large opening.

ARB DELIGHT:
Combine some canned dogfood with pasta noodles, rice, mashed potatoes, and some of your dog's dry dog food. Freeze.

NUT CRUNCH:
Take 2-3 dog biscuits and crunch them
a bit into very tiny bite-sized pieces. Add a couple spoonfuls of
peanut butter. Then add a couple spoonfuls of plain yogurt. Mix in bowl
until soft, but not runny. Stuff inside Kong.

BABYLICIOUS:
Mix together some fat-free cream
cheese, peanut butter, and either sugarfree applesauce or a jar of baby
food (like bananas, carrots). Cram a solid food item into the small
hole at the end of the Kong, then fill with the mixture. Seal the large
hole with either more cream cheese or peanut butter.

FRUITOPIA:
Combine applesauce with chunks of fruit. Freeze.

PUPPY TRAIL:
Fill the Kong with some cashews
(unsalted) and freeze-dried liver bits. Add some dry dog food and/or
dog crushed dog biscuits and some Cheerios. Drop in a spoonful of
peanut butter, followed by some dried fruit. Finally, top it off by
using a piece of ravioli or tortellini to close the large opening.

RED ROVER:
Smear the inside of the Kong toy with
peanut butter. Put a tiny piece of apple into the small hole, then drop
some more apple pieces in next. Drop in a scoop of peanut butter (or
cream cheese), then drop in some dogfood or broken dog treats. Add
another scoop of peanut butter (or cream cheese), then more apples.
Plug the large opening with a final scoop of peanut butter (or cream
cheese) and freeze.

FROZEN TUNA SALAD:
Mix together well: 1 6oz can
of light tuna, 2 T. plain yogurt, and 1/4 C. grated carrot. Spoon into
KONG toy. Freeze. According to Linda G. of Mendham, NJ (as printed in
the Aug '07 Kong Newsletter), "This treat is healthy and high in
Omega-3 fatty acids which contribute to healthy skin and a glistening
coat."

PUMPKIN PIECES:
Combine some plain yogurt, canned
pumpkin, and cooked rice in a small baggie. Mix well inside the bag,
then snip off a corner of the bag and squeeze it into the Kong toy.

KIBBLE-SICLE:
Put a glob of peanut butter into the
Kong first. Then add some dry dog food. Pour in some chicken broth. Add
some more peanut butter, followed by more dry dogfood. End with another
glob of peanut butter at the very top. Freeze until solid.
Freeze.

OLD STANDBY:
Soak some of your dog's regular food in water (or chicken broth) for a brief time before placing it inside a Kong, then freeze.

MUTT & CHEESE:
Melt a cube of Velveeta cheese
in the microwave, until it's gooey -- not runny. Fill the Kong toy with
cooked noodles. Pour cheese over noodles.

FROZEN BONZ:
Mix up some bananas, unsweetened applesauce, oatmeal, peanut butter, and plain yogurt. Freeze.

BROCOILI BAKE
boil a few boneless skinless chicken breasts, a bag of frozen broccoli
and a bag of frozen carrots until everything is cooked through, about
15 – 20 minutes. Drain all but a cup or two of liquid and then put the
entire mixture through the food processor or blender.

Seal up the small hole on the top , using a dab
of peanut butter. Spoon blended mixture into the KONG toys. Place them
upright in a tray and then freeze the whole tray.

For large dogs, yo need a block, yes a regular ice house type block of ice and a 1 inch hole saw. Drill 4-6 holes into each end of the ice and stuff each with a different thing, raw meat (ground), a favored dog treat, peanut butter, bananas, kibble mixed in banana or peanut butter, Greek style plain yogurt, etc...

Wonderful for them on a hot day, especially if you need to leave them outside for a few hours.

This forum is so cool! I love to make up games and toys for my dogs as a hobby, especially because it's so expensive to keep buying them when they keep getting ruined in five days. One of my favourite ones is to just take an empty plastic container, cut a couple of holes in the sides, put some small treats inside, and my dogs will roll that thing around for hours until they get all of the treats out! It's so funny to watch.

Wow, this is great forum. My sister is all about making things if she can instead of buying them. I'll have to tell her about this. I just got a kong for my guy yesterday, those recipes are perfect. We'll have to try one tonight. Thanks!

Wow! this by far is the best forum iv seen (other than football forums ;) Thx for the ideas!

for Brees, she loves empty water bottles,, but ill definitely check out some of the idea here in the forum and hopefully land a good toy for her..

all the other so-called toys, dont last a day with her.. and if she cant destroy it, its not a fun toy to her anymore :s

There are so many great ideas out there, and I find it so much more fun to use my creativity to make my dogs toys and games that I know are suited to their personalities and interests. Just like kids in this way, they certainly do have individual talents and preferences!!

Mine are easy, and old cotton rope and a tree. Although, I do have to get Missy out of the tree every once in a while. She jumps to go after a squirrel and gets pinned between the trunk and one of the limbs. I have had to save her several times now.

I know Honey is loving them, she knew right away they were for her and so far they are holding up really well. :)

PLEASE just don't give them ropes to bite and chew on, one dog swalllowed it, and passed away, the vet took lots of rope remains out of her tommy, I am still sad after watching the video :"(

#24 ·
that sounds like a lot of rope!,,, but from what i know, its ok, dogs will put anything in there mouths, and if anything happened, they simply poop it out... isnt that right ?

Some food/objects can cause blockages. It's why many of our members don't give rawhide, which is known to cause blockages in the intestines. Rope toys can cause blockage, which is why the instructions say to watch the dog around it. Most toys have similar warnings. As long as you're watching your dog with the toy and not letting him swallow big pieces, it should be fine.

Call the vet! LOL. I think I've read other threads say watch the dog & make sure they are passing food/water. If their belly gets bloated, you're in trouble. If their belly gets tender, you're in big trouble. I guess it depends on the size and material.
