Wonderful update on Jasper : ) It looks like he's going to have a great life judging from the background in the photos...nice looking stairs, and out door setting...But...most importantly...the new owners love him enough to take the effort to let you know how much they appreciate what you did for him and they understand that you had feelings for this puppy too...and it must had been hard for you to let him go. They sound like really good people!

This newest litter...so cute! Conrad caught my attention from the first, but in looking at those photos... I'm also liking the looks and personality description of Tora. : )

Ever since my back surgery in 2001, I've sought out low energy dogs when I went to adopt a new dog. I also adopted older dogs for that reason. I just don't have the physical ability to keep a high energy dog occupied/active enough that they don't go stir crazy.

I burn off a lot of AU's energy at night, with a laser light and a big back yard for him to chase the bug :) I'll also toss his toys and balls to fetch and can play a bit of tug of war with him for short periods, as he doesn't jerk really hard on the toys. I love that he's laid back most of the time and not needing/wanting a ton of energy drained. I have a niece with a border collie and that dog is restless and even after hours of running around and doing stuff with my niece...still seems to find all it's energy back after a couple of hours of rest. And the dog is just 'intense'...ready to go do something at the slightest movement on her human's part.

So, when I read about a puppy being laid back and relaxed and low energy...that always catches my attention...lol. I'll leave the high energy dogs to those who can be more active with their pets.

Also...those puppies...wow...they've grown so much in such a short period of time. I haven't been able to get in here for some days, due to back pain...but in looking at how big they are already, it feels like I missed a huge chunk of time in checking in.

They are wonderful! I am connected with them on Facebook so get almost daily updates on him and the they are always asking when they have questions, so I get to be involved in his life. It's been wonderful being connected with several of the owners and all do the same.

Tora is for sure laid back, Conrad too though, he is going to be a big couch potato of a dog, lol. Tora has a very level temperament, which is a nice trait! I too prefer dogs that are a bit lower energy, though for sure like a dog who wants their walks, I don't want a high energy one either. I am an active person, but breeds like border collies take it to another level, lol.

I know! I keep looking at them and it seems like they are growing up in a second. Only a few short weeks left and they will all be gone to new homes. It's crazy.

It's really amazing how well they are doing considering how difficult their start in life was. Once again, you're a miracle worker. Has the rescue group started lining up adoptive families for them yet? I'm glad that past families realize and show their appreciation for all of your care and effort.

Stormy - I'm with you on low energy dogs! Asher's rescue group thought he was about 7. My vet thinks he's closer to 10. So, once again, I ended up with a senior dog. He can take longer and faster walks than Miles could, but he likes to sleep most of the day. I don't mind at all. :)

It was quite rocky and full of worry for me at first, but they are doing extremely well. My little overcomers! :dog-love:

Yes, they have been listed to the rescue's site for pre-adoption, last I heard there as a bunch of interest. Good chance they, like my last litter will all have homes waiting for them before they are ready to leave me.

So how many more weeks do you expect to have them? The little overcomers!

About three more weeks, they will get their second set of shots at 9 weeks old, then go in for their spay and neuters a couple days after that, probably beginning of the week, so either monday or tuesday.

Sorry for no posts yesterday, crazy things have been happening! Updates on that coming tomorrow, but let's just say it will no longer be a family of seven

For those of you who may have guessed, you were correct, I got more puppies! These two are siblings to my current set. The boy is the first photo, girl is the second photo. Names coming soon! Making a very long sad story short without getting into too many details, the siblings that we were told had been killed by their mother weren't actually killed, we were lied to and they had been stolen and kept by the person who originally had all of them. Thankfully we got them back and they are safe with me and back with their siblings.

The contrast between the first seven that I raised, and these guys is sad to say the least. There are so many things that need worked on, but have no fear, I will get them set to rights!

Right off the bat is was clear they had never been disciplined for anything, and taught several very inappropriate behaviors by the people who had them, chasing and biting feet, hard biting hands and clothes, barking to try and demand attention, and jumping up on people, just to the name ones I have found at this point. Corrections are being issued and proper behaviors are being taught, such as sitting for attention. Their attention on people is non existent, they simply do their own thing, they don't look to people for direction like their siblings do, not yet at least.

They have very little concept of proper play behavior, pushing too far and not listening to warnings to stop by their siblings, they have clearly not had enough correction, and have gotten into more serious fights between the two of them, just because they don't understand when to stop. Their overall manner is extremely overbearing and out of control, unlike their siblings calm, mature, in control manner, these two are all over the place, jumping, biting, barking and generally not in a good place mentally. They were clearly never taught to have a shutoff, so are having to learn that concept. Their siblings will play until they are tired, then fall asleep as they have been taught, these guys however will run themselves until they are overtired to the extreme and begin getting grumpy and picking on each other, starting fights.

With all that said, they are extremely intelligent and now that it's no longer being suppressed, they are picking up on things quickly, they already figured out the water dish, how to get outside to potty, and are learning not to bite or jump on people. It's going to be a lot of work, but I will get them turned around. Thankful they are here now and can start learning what they need to be good dogs! Better photos coming soon!

Wow, just wow! I had assumed that you were bringing in a new litter, as you've done before. You certainly have your work cut out for you.

I'm wondering if those people still have one of the puppies. Your original post stated that the mother had killed three of her puppies. One is still unaccounted for. It sounds like they kept three puppies, and then decided they no longer wanted two of them.

I would guess that most people who have puppies do none of the work that you're doing to teach them correct behaviors in their first 8 weeks. It seems that most puppy resources start at 8 weeks when people bring home their new dogs, and a lot of new puppy owners wait until they've had their vaccinations to do any socializing. I'm sure that there would be far less turnover of dogs if they all got your level of care.

Well done, as always!

They do still have the third, and are refusing to return it, so the police are involved now. Hoping we will be able to get him back. They wanted to keep all of them, however they were caught off guard and had no choice but to hand over the two I have now, however the third they didn't have there at the time, so it's a fight to try and get him back now. It's a really complicated situation, so not going into too many details at this point. Praying he will soon be with me where he belongs.

It for sure is true that few people do much with puppies in the first 8 weeks, and it breaks my heart, because so many of these pups are just like the two new ones, out of control and without manners. So many dogs end up in shelters and being put to sleep because of that lack of proper manners and raising that should have been taught in the first 8 weeks. Breaks my heart for every puppy not raised, and every person who has to then deal with the issues for life because of people who fail those puppies early on.

Another set of weekly photos, and the babies are now close as we can figure, 7 weeks old today. They are huge, gorgeous, sweet, intelligent puppies! Lori and Tora have families lined up, and both Conrad and Riley have apps that look extremely promising. Everyone else is still looking for their perfect families. All are doing so well, and the new ones have come far in just a couple days!

Bear, 6.5lbs
Image

Conrad, 7lbs. Could not love this boy more!
Image

Dixon, 6.8lbs
Image

Drea, 5.13lbs
Image

Karli, 5.10lbs: She is the life of the party! Bold, boisterous, and outgoing. She loves to play endlessly, and has a zest for life that makes her such a joy to watch and be around! She is bold and ready to adventure, and due to this energetic nature has the highest energy of the litter. Outgoing and people loving, she is ready to cover the nearest person in kisses and wiggle at everyone. She loves to be vocal when playing and honestly thinks she is twice her size, ready to take on anything!
Image

Lori, 5.6lbs
Image

Riley, 5.11lbs
Image

Tora, 7.2lbs
Image

Zeke, 7.5lbs. He is huge, and a giant love bug! Friendly, playful, and goofy. He is all tail wags at the sight of anyone and one of his favorite things in life is giving endless kisses! Despite the fact that he is the biggest, he loves to cuddle on laps and do everything you are doing. he has medium level energy, loving to play and run, but also be calmer and cuddle. he has a wonderful, goofy nature that has me laughing all the time. He loves to please and is willing to learn whatever you want as long as he gets some pets and praise from his people!

Passed out... These babies had a fun morning meeting new people. The families of Lori and Tora came for a visit today, fun had by all and such awesome people! So excited for the lives these puppies have ahead of them! Conrad also has a family lined up now, and they will be flying in to pick him up. Time passes quickly, just two more weeks or so most likely and they will be off to their own homes. It's just crazy to me how fast it goes. They are completely worn up from their visitors this morning, and will likely sleep for another couple hours.

Photo time from today, and an update! It's been just under a week since I first brought the "new" siblings home, and what a change that short amount of time has! Structure, proper training, and lots of love and attention do so much good!
They no longer hard bite, and are quickly learning as the rest of their siblings have that biting is not okay, and there is very little biting at all anymore. They no longer chase feet, and learned quick that only polite quiet behavior gets them the attention they seek. They are doing so much better with attention work, looking to me and following me around like all their siblings do. The aloof, unfocused behavior is no more, they love people and always look to me for guidance. They are doing better on leash each day, and learning that crates are positive things, slowly working here as due to their past and I believe probably being locked in one a lot, they tend to whine and panic when confined. They have gotten to the point now however where they are able to be in a crate for a few seconds while waiting for their food, and be calm about it, so doing well.
Having so many siblings around has done them a world of good in so many ways, and one of those is the play category; appropriate correction has been handed out to them by their siblings for their out of control behavior, and pushing too far when playing, which has settled them right down and they now respect when someone gives them a warning that they are done. Their overbearing behavior I feel was mostly caused by lack of proper attention and exercise, because a couple days in, they quickly begin to calm down and settle. Along those lines, they have also learned a great shutoff like all their siblings, it was tough for them at first as they would run until they would drop, but now when they are tired, they happily go to sleep wherever they are without me having to confine for them to shutoff when tired. They still stick together a bit, but are much less attached and are happy to spend time away from each other, this has made the fighting between them almost nonexistent thankfully.
As for all the other seven, they couldn't be doing better! Their training is amazing, they are mannerly, sweet babies. They are perfect on leash, love to get out and about to see the world, are doing great with their crate introductions, being able to wait calmly in a crate with the door closed at each meal time, and loving to sleep in the open one in their area.

Been reading the past few pages of updates. I haven't posted recently as I took a serious fall about 10 days ago, and sitting at the computer chair has been even more limited than usual due to more back pain, and my left knee being all puffed up. No serious damage done, just a lot of excess pain to deal with...things are almost back to my 'normal'

I do hope that last puppy is found, and I'm so glad to hear that the mama dog didn't kill any of them...sad that the lowlifes who had the puppies would put such a blame on the dog to cover up their own misdeeds.

I'm also glad to hear that in such a short amount of time, you are seeing huge improvements to their behavior !!!

All the puppies being adopted are, of course, lucky...but wow...Conrad's new owners are Flying in from someplace else to do so! Not too many people, even if money was no object, would take the time and airfare to make a long distant trip to adopt a dog...many would probably just go buy one, or adopt the first puppy they could from a closer, local shelter...no matter if the puppy was the right kind of dog for their live style.

Ouch, sorry to hear about your fall! Hope you are completely recovered soon.

No updates so far on the last puppy, but hopefully soon there will be something. I know, breaks my heart! Poor dog getting blamed for that, and finding out so much later she didn't do anything at all.

They are wonderful people, and very knowledgeable. I am so glad because Conrad is a favorite, and one of those pups that is super hard to let go, I just love him so much. He is going to have an amazing life though, they love him so much already!

For sure! They have come such a long way, and except for a couple things still being worked out, they are doing flawlessly now.
