Feral Cats, dumped cats stupid people rant

I love cats. I really do but im sick of all these cats showing up new faces each day. We have a 10 male feral 20 female feral clinic. but i cant afford to pay for each one of these cats!!

if the county/city or whomever would help spay/neuter them i would maintain them to the best of my ability. food/shelter/water etc...I have a pretty tiger kitten now. She is still semi feral coming into her first heat(thought she was a boy so i named her fred before i knew she was a she lol). she has 2 other siblings named sampson and tucker along with her momma who is preggo again(momma is probably only 1 or about 18 months old). Also have a tortie momma with her 3 kittens who are 2 months younger than the other 3 and she is also knocked up again.

Add in the new ones who appear daily. none are spayed except the feral seal point that we took in and released(way too feral to be a house cat unfortunately). yes people are dumping siamese cats along with declawed, seniors and persians, himalyans..even been one hairless cat found too(good thing it was found before winter set in or it would be dead).

Because of the siamese cats getting dumped(yes i go and trap them). I had 8 of them here, thank god there are good people out there who helped me place them and s/n them(the reason i cant afford to do all these dumped babies myself costs money way too much)

heck no! i did the siamese cats but they where easily placed or owners found if lost cats. these are ferals. i have the kitten in my house and she is now my neutered siamese best buddy, my senior siamese is coming close to his final days.

Why don't you have a community meeting and see if you can all pitch in some money to have the pregnant females fixed and those babies aborted then have all the cats fixed. I know some communities do that, pitch in money.

ive emailed the city counsel they said they dont handle that. i also just emailed the spca director to see what kind of help i can get. i know its only 10 for male and 20 for female but that tends to add up with the amount of cats im seeing around here and they are all wild i cant get close to most except for momma, sampson and tucker.

That's why you should ban together as a community..the neighborhood... You should search the internet for a place that will trap the cats and fix them. We have 1 or 2 places here that do it. If everyone pitched in 10 bucks you could get a lot of cats fixed.

I know alot of people are pro trap neuter release, but personally I am pro eradication...not trying to turn your thread into a debate, but the stats/facts on "colonies" of cats don't really equal TNR as the best option, unless you put the emotion factor into it.

I used to live in an area with a large feral pop, People would dump them infront of the petsmart and they'd excape into the surrounding nieghborhood. Personally, I would trap ferrals and take to AC. Within a year or so, the numbers were very much down.

That said, I do think finding homes can be part of the solution, for the tame ones..

either way, that sucks, I remember how frustrating it was living among that problem years ago

I know the areas here have noticed a dramatic decline in feral cats because they are using TNR, but I definitely see your point Crio. I think TNR is at least better than nothing

i think we should have a cat limit like we do with dogs. only allowed 3 dogs per property within the city. dogs must be licensed why not cats?

its a emotional thing for me b/c i feel really bad for them and i get upset when i see them sick or hurting. thankfully mommas and kittens are rather healthy.

ive posted on CL asking for help with the trapping and s/n with no answers.

Um yea what did you expect?

why dont you talk to your neighbors?
my neighbors...lol..i have a bar next door two more next to that one, a gym next to those, wilson farms across street, an older guy next door who likes to set fireworks off randomly who is not much for conversation. two empty houses after the old guy, with an old garage the cats are living in. ive talked to two other neighbors and they said they dont care.

On CL i see all kinds of people asking for help so i figured it was worth a try.

Idk, in my town people put down stray animals if homes can't be found within a month or two. I have a ton of friends who have dogs what were going to be put down if they weren't adopted in a week or two.
Least I think thats what they said, not sure. I haven't visited a shelter in ever.

cnyspca is in syracuse does not help with ferals for my area. we have feral cat friends which i have emailed to help with the TNR and CNY cat coalition but have not heard back from either of them. the spca here is fingerlakes spca of CNY.

Our AC in Eastern WA did NOT take ferals (even to euthanize). I tried to get them to take many a feral cat...to no avail.

I feel bad for the cats, they don't deserve to have been treated that way (ie, abandoned and left to fend for themselves). However, I agree that eradication is the best route for the un-adoptable cats. Cats SHOULD be subject to the same laws as dogs are, you can't just let a dog roam around unleashed...why the heck is this so acceptable for cats?

i couldnt euthanise healthy animals because they are feral and yes they are healthy thus far. I am going to try my best to see if i can catch momma, she is semi friendly with me. and her two babies. the other momma and babies are very skittish. all are at healthy looking weight, nice shiny coats. Ive been caring for them. its just the s/n that is a problem.

Feral cats destroy wildlife. And die by cars or disease like i said if you let emotion get in the way of logic....

Id rather euth ferals than be scraping dead kittens out of the road all year Honestly its euth or alter. But even altered outdoor cats are devistating to wildlife jmho

our squirrels here are like the rambos of the squirrel world. ever see a squirrel chase an 81lb rottweiler puppy. tad amusing. And bird we have stupid starlings, my favorite blue jays(those are some bad ass birds), crows(google auburn ny and crows lol you will see what i mean), pigeons and a bunch of lil sparrows.

You have more than just that, trust me, and squirrels everywhere can chase a dog, it doesn't make them safe from cats. I hope biologists one day are given the "go ahead!" With trapping and eradicating feral cats both for the wildlife, the people who hit em on the roads (or the people who swerve to miss and cause an accident) and even for their own good.

i know they do damage. im also pretty sure i can if i can get help trapping the one momma and freds siblings find them homes they are beautiful cats.

yea we have more than that but i cant think of the names of the other birds(i love bird watching)SO far momma and freds siblings havent messed with the birds at the feeders.

I love the squirrels each morning there is about 15 of them outside(got black walnut trees next to my property). i will have to get some more pics of the squirrels and sampson sitting on the top of the fence. the squirrels drop nuts on the cats heads.

Is there any way you could trap and neuter any of ferals to send to farms? though I know that most farms already have cats.

of course I am sure the problem is more the faster accumulation of cats before you can get rid of the ones you already have...

that is the problem no matter how many get s/n you have more getting dumped.

Feral cats dont normally get dumped, they are either house pets that get dumped or lost, or feral cats that were born to a feral environment. I think the answer is to unfortunately get rid of them, I read an article that explains the damage ferals do and how altering them doesnt help that aspect.

#28 ·
what i mean is it starts out as two females being dumped. kittens are born thus the cycle starts again with kittens who are born without human contact and dont trust humans. the two females may have started out as pets but in short time they also grow to distrust humans why should they trust them? theyve been either tossed out of a house, a moving car, over fences, mistreated, they have no reason to trust us but to fear us.
