so, i got back from vacation late thursday night, and picked fawkes up from my sister yesterday afternoon. my sister said that one of the cats had peed on the cardboard scratching-toy, but she thought it was because the litterbox was dirty. when i was gathering up his stuff, i caught him peeing on her bed
poor guy, he NEVER has had litterbox issues before, so i know he must have been pretty unhappy/uncomfortable. he then peed twice more, out of the litterbox, before i even got him home. called the vet, but i couldn't get him in until today. i was thinking uti, but apparently he has feline lower urinary tract disease. had to leave him at the vet for the weekend
the vet just called, he was able to get him to empty his bladder without a catheter (a good sign) and has given him some muscle relaxers (phenoxybenzamine), valume and fluids to hopefully help him to do it on his own. did an ultrasound, there wasn't anything in his bladder to cause blockage...
*fingers crossed* that what was done so far does the trick. long-term care, they want to put him on a prescription diet and possibly long term meds... i'm not particularly excited about the prescription diet and plan on researching it further as well as possible long term med care and other options. if anyone has any info or advice, i'd appreciate it.
