Cats refuses wet food?

Both my cats are VERY finicky eaters... My 3 yr old, James, has never eaten anything other than the dry food he's currently on (Nutro Max Indoor Weight Control... not the best, I know :( ) and goes into puke fests any time I try to switch him over (no matter how gradually) to a higher quality food. I've tried many times to offer wet food, but its like he doesn't even recognize its food. He looks at it, then goes to paw at the kibble container :eyeroll: My 2 yr old, Toby, doesn't have the pukey problems usually, but he doesn't care for wet food either. He'll take a couple licks, but then ignores it.

I really want to get them switched over to something better so I don't have to worry about all the issues I've heard all-kibble diets have especially the not-greatest-quality ones, but I don't know what to do to get them to realize "Oh hey, wet food is actually food and is good!" and not cause massive carpet damage in the process :p Anyone have any ideas what to do?

It's been a while since my last attempt, but I've tried various Fancy Feasts and one or two kinds of Wellness.

James usually pukes for 2 weeks straight, multiple times a day, even when I just swap between two flavors of the same kibble... If I hear him starting I usually try to pick him up and put him in the litter box for easy clean-up, but I'm not there all day... And if I'm not there then his favorite puke spots are either on our leather couch or on my husband's schoolwork/books/bag :(

Maybe he doesn't like the flavor? :p Charmander refused to eat Chicken and Tuna mixed flavor, while loves them seperate (along with other flavors). We use friskies and I like that brand because it comes in different styles (Flakey, pate', shreads, etc.). I'm not sure if it's the best brand out there, but in my town we don't get really get the best brands out there of pet foods.

Maybe this is a dumb suggestion, but have you tried mixing wet/dry, with a ton more dry to start (like 1/3 cup dry, 1 tbps. wet), and slowly increasing the wet over a period of a few weeks? You could even try crushing the kibble and sprinkling it over the wet food for the one who doesn't get pukey.

Not a dumb suggestion at all, I hadn't thought of that :) I'll try that route and see if I have better luck.

As for the flavor thing, it's possible, but I tried 5 different flavors... I know some cats can be super finicky about that, but I'd think that after 5 that James at least would show SOME interest... But no, he just sniffs it and then runs over to the kibble container as if to say "Hey mom, you gave me the dog's food! My food's right here!" :eyeroll:

From what I've read about a lot of dry cat kibble is that that it is sprayed with things that are enticing to your cats since they wouldn't normally eat dry food, and cats can get addicted to it. So it's harder for some cats to switch when they've been fed low quality hard food all their life.
