Cat/Kittens Help!!!

A few days ago we were out for a walk and found a small calico kitty. She was super sweet and we took her in intent on finding her people. We thought she was just fat having no experience other wise. Well needless to say last night she had five beautiful kittens. She lets us get close to her babies but she sits there staring us down. And we are not permitted to touch or move them in anyway. Otherwise she starts shrieking at us and trying to remove flesh with her nails. We have put up flyers and even had family post messages on Facebook. I do not trust any of our local shelters enough to even consider bringing them there.

I do have an appointment for the vet next week (closest I could get.) But what should we do in the mean time?

Just a guess, but I think for now, mother knows best. Her upset will carry on down to the kittens, so let her set the standard within her comfort zone. Those little ones are super fragile, and they will get a mind of their own and start wandering soon enough.
BTW You are AWESOME--thanks for taking these tykes on.

You so need to turn that into a Christmas card, or Seasonal Greetings card, as the case may be. It so screams for ribbons and bows and joyful cheer.
I think you will have some wonderful cuddling kittens to adopt out when the time is right--oh, geez, that'll be mid January, right? (8 -12 wks?)

I'm lucky for family and friends cause most of the babies and momma are already spoken for. My sister is taking two, my grandparents are taking momma if no one comes forward as well as a kitten. Leaving two unclaimed. But they do realize that if momma's family comes for her that they will be going with momma and not them.

We did move momma today into a spare room that stays warm. We also put a radio in there so it's not to quiet. Found out the hard way she will not use a litter box with a cover. Nope she went all over the floor instead so off came the top. Our neutered male is curious about her but we are not allowing direct contact. I distracted her long enough that my fiancé was able to replace the blankets the kittens are on for cleaning. So for now she's got food, warmth and water so I'm leaving them be for the rest of the day.

I did read in the link that a good food is a must. We are feeding her blue wilderness and will start soft food tomorrow. Is blue okay to feed her? She eats it like it's going out of style

Wow, aw, awesome, really, this is wonderful.
I'm not savvy about foods, I'll let others chime in about food, but seriously, I'm sure it's better than what she'd be getting on the street. Sounds like you're putting a lot of thought into this.

I know this is kind of an old thread but I just came across it. Just wanted to add my "you're awesome for taking this cat and kittens in!" to the rest ;)

Could we please have an update? How are the kittens doing? Did anyone come forward to claim mom? And if possible, more pics:D
