Blue Buffalo problem?

We got Korra a bag of the BB kitten kibble, and she loved it. She chowed down whenever we put the bowl in front of her. But after I got a second bag, she refused to eat it, going instead after the adult cats's food. So I put the BB food in front of the other cats. None of them will touch it, even Eliza who will eat anything you give her.

I took a big whiff of the food tonight and it smells . . . off? The first bag had a great chicken smell that made all of the animals go nuts to have some. This bag smells almost sour.

Anyone else had experience with BB cat food? I'm thinking of taking it back to Petsmart this weekend since it's a brand-new bag of food. But I'm not sure what other brand to get there that's in the same price range ($11 for a small bag).

You'll occasionally buy a bag of food, any brand, that's bad. This is most likely due to a problem in shipping or storage that exposed the food to the elements, mold spores, etc. Just take it back and get a new one, but check the lot numbers to make sure they aren't from the same group.

BTW, PetSmart uses third party logistics (3PL) that allows them to pre-position inventory in warehouses around the county. All of this is done by companies other than PetSmart who own trucking lines and/or warehouses. This allows PetSmart to restock stores quickly and keep prices lower. The downside is that it can be difficult to manage these business relationships. They don't know if their product is being stored next to something that it shouldn't or if it was shipped on a truck that just did a garbage run or something else.

I'm not sure about Petsmart but I know Petco will take back an open dog food back -no questions asked. I'd take it back too.

Well, I just got back from Petsmart, and I don't know if they had a run on kitten food or what, but they had very few brands to choose from. =/

I didn't want to risk getting another bad BB bag, and they were out of Wellness Core kitten food. No TotW either. So it was down to Nutro, Simply Nourish, Hill's, Purina, or Royal Canin. I went with the Simply Nourish, so we'll see how she does with that.

Korra is now grooming my face so that must be my signal for playtime!
