Bit of a weird question

Okay so Sammie was neutered last Friday and he is doing great :) but I always thought that neutered dogs didn't have their testicles anymore (I may be wrong). Sammies testicles are still very much there so I was concerned that maybe Sammie has been vasectomised rather than neutered? If so is this as good as neutering? Will he still have his hormones? Thanks a lot I hope I'm not being silly lol

Are you sure his testicles are there? Is it possible you're seeing an "empty coin purse" so to speak? Because that part takes a while to go away and that's normal. The best way to tell is to feel, lol

That's pretty strange, I don't know anything about vasectomies but I would call your vet and ask if that's what they did. Did you get to discuss this with them before his surgery? It seems to me if they were going to vasectomy they should have asked you first

I had a discussion with a my vet a week before the surgery and we were talking about neutering and I explicitly said I wanted him neutered and that's what I booked him on for. The day of the surgery I was working so my dad brought him to and from the vets and nothing was said, just that the surgery went fine.

I didn't touch Sammies parts before hand cos I thought it would be sore I just made sure the wound was clean etc by looking. This is why I was shocked yesterday when I felt two balls there lol. I'm going to the vet on Sunday to get Sammies stiches out so I'll be asking them then but just thought I would ask you guys before hand if it was possible to have a neutered dog that still has balls!

Unless there was a serious lack of understanding between you and your vet, he is most likely neutered (and as such, will not have his testicles).

You are more than likely just seeing the swelling. It's not uncommon for the scrotum to fill with excess fluids after the surgery, making it appear as if the dog is still intact. The swelling should subside in a matter of days.

Definitely talk with your vet to ease your mind though :)
