Nearly every vegan I've seen is very pet-loving. As someone who has never had a good experience with pets (two dogs chased me when I was a child and scarred me for life, one dog bit me a year ago, not a fan of them dirtying everything, ...), I'll forever be scared around animals. I still respect their right to live and I'll never consume an animal or a animal product knowingly in my life, but are there other vegans who are similar?
(And before you tell me, "are there others" is simply a shorter form of asking "is there a non-negligible population of" without sounding like a weirdo.)
Hi. Welcome to the forum.
There's a lot of broad generalisations in your post.
First of all, not all pets are dogs, and from the examples you give, it seems you have a problem with dogs, as opposed to animals in general.
Secondly, you assume all vegans are animal lovers who have decided not to eat or consume animal products because of the ethics. This is not the case. People may go vegan because of environmental or health reasons, or maybe just not like the taste of meat.
Thirdly, you assume you'll always be afraid of "animals", when this is another thing that's not necessarily true. I used to be scared of dogs. Never, in my wildest dreams would I ever have imagined having one of my own. 3 dogs later, there's one sharing my dressing gown, another on my bed, I love watching Crufts, I have books on dog behaviour and am looking up more, I read dog training blogs and help to moderate two dog/pet related forums.
So, whilst this thread is better off on a vegan forum, yes, there are vegans out there who will be afraid of animals and/or choose to be vegan for other reasons than those related to animal welfare, and you don't have to resign yourself to a life of fear.
