Hi,
Just wondering if anyone on here, or someone they know, have adopted from Ozark Homeward Bound Rescue? They're a network of foster homes in Arkansas but send a lot of dogs to the Northeast to be adopted. They seem pretty great, but this is my first time rescuing a dog and I've heard some horror stories so I'm trying to do a little research. thanks!

Asking around is a good start. Wish we had! One of those rare horror stories is why I joined here (googled rescue threatens to reclaim dog and got directed to a thread on this site.) In hindsight, I wish we had vetted the rescue even as they vetted us and i wish we contested the oppressive parts of the contract. That's my advice in general but I can't help with the specific rescue org...wish I could but good luck.

Hi Yes I got my Male Blue Heeler Mix from them last August 2011. They were very nice from the very beginning of contact. He came up from Arkansas the night before Hurricane Irene (hence that's his name "Hurricane") hit us here in NJ and that would be my only complaint was the transport situation. He left Arkansas on Wednesday and arrived on Friday night at 10:00PM :( Even though we were in constant contact with the transporter, he was always lost in different parts of his route and we had to go and meet him about an hour away from our home. The driver was exhausted, still had like 10 dogs left in his van and was driving Hurricane's brother another 2 hours to upstate New York. I didn't think he should drive anymore for the night, and I did call my contact down in Arkansas and expressed my concerns to her. Other than that, he was very healthy, had all his papers, and we just LOVE him! Let me know how you make out should you decide. Thanks

I am in RI and I got my pup from Safe Haven Animal Rescue Program. They are similar and have a network of foster homes but in Tennessee. You should look into it, they were so great. The transport up to the Northeast was part of the adoption fee too. I got daily updates and everyone there was set on making sure I was a good fit.

Oops, perhaps should have updated this thread! Thanks for the responses -- I did end up getting Oliver from Ozark. Very, very nice people and made the whole process extremely easy! I just can't believe no one else snapped Oliver up, he's the best little dog!
