I have a 3 month old Pomeranian who is hospitalized for a week already and his condition is unstable. Sometimes he looks like he is eating and moving towards better health but the next day he is done again. This is really u settling.

I send him to hospital last Sunday night as I observed that he looked unwell and body temperature had gone up. He had pooed 5 times with wet stool that day.

The vet confined he has a 40 degree temperature and with his diarrhea I was told is better to admit him in the hospital. At that point in time I was told his glucose level was fine.

The next day I was told his fever is down but his diarrhea is not good. The vet did all the tests and told me his white blood count is ok and his liver is functional well.

But his glucose level dipped and have to be on drip. He refused to eat. He had hypoglycemia. But other than that they couldn’t find anything else that’s wrong with him.

Subsequently his glucose level went up to normal but he was still lethargic. There were hours he felt better and started to eat and after about half a day he would vomit and diarrhea.

The vet doesn’t understand his inconsistent condition.

Today I am told that his gut is not moving and not digesting. That’s the cause of the vomit.

I am at a loss. Looks like the vet too. Though he is trying his best.

Is so disheartening to see a young puppy going through so much.

Help! I am at a loss of what I should do next !

I would ask your Vet for a referral to a specialist, perhaps an Internist. They tend to look at things from different and multiple perspectives.

That is such a difficult and painful situation, for you and for the puppy. I will be hoping and praying for you and the little Pomeranian.

I agree with Laco about the specialist, maybe a new perspective will help with this issue.
