I have a 3mos old 23lb pitbull puppy named Capone. He just ate (1) icebreakers frost mint which contains xylitol (?) which I read is toxic! I gave him dry toast then induced vomiting with 1 1/2 tsp of hydrogen peroxide -- he vomited and is now sleeping in my lap. I looked it up and the net says this stuff is extremely poisonous to dogs. Help, I'm terrified :(

Do not be terrified. I am sure all will be ok. Like Tess said you did good by making him vomit. I am sure he did not get enough to be toxic to him. Keep an I eye on him and if he does not eat his breakfast then you may want to go to the vet. If he seems to be fine just keep on eye on him.

How is he doing now? Says you would see signs within 30 min of eating it.

I know this is several hours after the fact, so I'm going to assume you've already called the vet etc.... but for anyone else who may find themselves in this dilemma and runs across this thread;

Did he vomit up the mint?

The toxic dose of xylitol is 0.2-0.4 g/kg, or approximately 2-4 g in your pup.... the website doesn't say how much xylitol is in one mint, but you could call the company: (800) 468-1714

Hoping for a quick recovery!

My aunts Bichon ate an entire pack of sugar free gum one time. they took her immediately to the vet. She ended up being fine, so hopefully one mint won't be too bad.
