Ok so my dog (a wonderful lab) always howls when any instrument plays, especially when the clarinet is played. He throws his head back and very loudly howls and occasionally he kinda moans. And surprisingly he is able to match whatever note is being played pretty closely!

So I was wondering is this common in dogs or maybe just the breed of labs? Why does he do this? And how is he able to match the notes so closely?

Just kinda curious, thanks! :)

I agree as far as I know its pretty common in dogs, especially in huskies and malamutes and hounds (I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting). I'm sure you can also find tons of videos of dogs howling to instruments on youtube or the like.

My Bri doesn't howl at me when I'm singing, she comes over and starts licking my face for me to shut up... But my singing is not that bad :D
