Hello! I'm curious if anyone has any information on a strange rash I have noticed on my whippet a couple different times. The rash is deep red with some scaling. He does not seem to be in pain but the rash does concern me. Thanks for any help.

Has he been seen by a vet for this issue yet? You said it's happened a couple times, has it always been at that same spot? Does it itch or bother him in any way? How old is he? To me, based off the picture, it looks like a bruise which may mean that he potentially has a clotting issue. Perhaps some more info about your pup may help us narrow down what's going on.

Hello, thanks for getting back to me.

He has been to the vet and I showed them the same picture. They did not have a good idea about what it could be. I thought it could have been a bruise as well but the fact that his skin was a bit scaly threw me off. He is 4 years old and otherwise really heathy.

I agree.. looks much more like a bruise than a rash… couid he have fallen and hurt himself there? Is it tender? If both no, then I would also be concerned about a clotting or platelet problem.

I've seen that sort of thing before in the whippet groups I'm in on facebook. I think it's sort of common. I would ask some whippet people what they think. I'm sorry for not remembering exactly what it is at the moment!
