I'm trying to choose new collars for my dogs. I can either get one with the clip buckle or the belt buckle style. Which do you think is safer/sturdier? I like the clip buckle because it's much easier to put on and off, which would be nice because my dogs are so squirmy. My concern is that it might come off easily, whereas a belt buckle seems less likely to unbuckle. what do you think?

Bonus question: which material would you choose...fabric or leather?

I have buckle leather collars on all my dogs. I do have a clip one that I use for agility as it has my number on it with no tags hanging down but I don't know how confident I would feel having to hold my dogs back with that.

Depends on just how rough your dog plays, and how hard they pull.

If your dog likes to play and wrestle with other dogs a clip collar will be safer, If the collar gets caught in the other dogs mouth, and the dogs can't separate, it's easier to unclip a collar then to try and unfasten a buckle.

If your dog is a puller then a buckle collar is safer. I've had a clip collar unfasten in the past when my dog pulled hard enough, I've never had that happen with a buckle collar.

Well it's a yes to both. They play very rough with each other. I have a mini aussie and a beagle puppy/teenager. they like to grab at each other's necks a lot. and the beagle will try to take off anything the aussie is wearing.

they also pull on walks. i like to use the metal prong collars but they keep coming apart, so i need to find something else. the main reason i'm getting these new collars is because my dad keeps complaining about how they don't have normal collars with their name on it. i have used clip fabric collars before with no problem, and they are small dogs. i'm thinking about getting bungee/spring leashes to go with the collars to reduce pulling. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01L6SDPWY/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_7?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A11ZPKX66AHSG0

In that case what I'd do is walk them on a no pull harness like this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F3EFRPA/ref=twister_B01F3EEWFQ?_encoding=UTF8&th=1 but there are others, and use a clip collar.

The no pull harness will keep them from pulling, and the collar will be safer for them when they wrestle. The other thing you could do is use buckle collars to walk them and just take them off when you get home.

I'm having trouble finding a leather collar with a clip buckle that's within my price range. For some reason the clip ones i've found are all at least 10 dollars more expensive than belt buckle styles.

Fabric is so much cheaper, but I'm worried about my dogs' teeth getting stuck in the other's collar.
