Which name do you like better for a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever?

My husband and I would like to get a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever and last night we discussed the idea of using a list of municipalities in Nova Scotia to find a name. We each found one on the list we liked. Which do you think makes a better name:

  • Argyle
  • Halifax

Argyle is two syllables: Ar-gyle.
I've always heard it pronounced as 'ar guy el' 3 syllables.. ???

Do you pronounce Argyle the French way? like [aʁ'gyl]?

Halifax, for me, only conjures up one thing, Halifax NS so it is a lot more 'heavy handed' for a NSDTR. Kind of like naming your Great Dane Copenhagen
that doesn't make sense, since the Great Dane isn't Danish.
the Danish Molosser breed (that the one called "Doggen" in German) would be the Broholmer.
It's called like that in English because back then the relationship between Germany and the Anglosaxon countries were a bit strained also the original english name "German Boarhound" didn't sound so great for the people that wanted to buy them, so they changed the name somewhere in late 19th century. the breed itself is already pretty old though.
You could call them Schleswig to make it German but still keep it close to Denmark, but most English native speakers have problems pronouncing the "ig"/"ich" sound at the end and to be honest it's not a very cool name.

I personally would rather chose a symbol for the region than a geographical name but if I had to chose from the two name I'd take Halifax.
You could also play around with the letters and syllables:
Filaxha, Alixfah Hixlafa...

I just wanted to chime in and say I think Hixlafa is an amazing sounding name
I think I'm just a bit sensitive stormy, no need to change.

I say it ahhhhr-guy-le, linguistics is weird.
Google "Define argyle" and it will show you how the syllables are split up.

As for naming after a symbol of the region, you mean like Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever? haha!
Maybe I'll ditch the Nova Scotia inspired names and go with a name inspired by my local region. I'm on the southern Oregon coast.
I do this too. I have a name in mind, and pick a few others for people to choose from. I always end up going with the name I had originally picked anyway. Everyone wanted Levi to be named Harvey, and for Heidi to be Susie. :p
Hal-i-fax and Arg-y-le have the same amount of syllables...so I don't see how that's a determining factor between the two choices. I also don't think 3 syllables is overly long for a dog's name.
