i started my potty train when my dogs were around 2-3 months old. I trained them with old newspaper outside. You can actually know when the dogs want to pee/poo, they tend to sniffing the ground. Pick them up and carry them outside. I give them treat if they pee/poo on the newspaper. i just wrap the old newspaper and throw them away. Everytime they wanna pee/poo, they will bark at the door to alert me.
