I noticed Whisky was limping a bit this morning, so I looked and her dew claw on her front paw is ripped open and there was grass stuck between the nail and the fleshy stuff. What do I do? It's obviously discomforting her, and she won't let me touch her paw. I'm thinking that I should go see the vet with her, but how would they fix that? Remove her dew claws? I'm just not sure what to do :(

Definately vet trip so it can be flushed to prevent infection. Then it might be bandaged to heal, or he might have to remove it.

Id clean it up and wrap it. But my dogs would both let me do that. so i dont need to waste the money or the effort for a vet visit.

they have both broken them before, easy fix for us.

If you can not do it yourself, id say go to a vet an see what they will do.

Clean it up. The vet may prescribe antibiotics. There seems to be a high likelyhood of infection in such a location.

My dog has done this before- Call the vet and tell them whats going on. My vet told me to clean it as best as i could and to just keep an eye on it and no rough play. Just like when we tear a nail off, it can fall off and will grow back, but it can also get infected!

With it being Friday and all (I dont know if your vet is open on weekends, but mines not!) I'd at least give them a call and see what they suggest you do
