Today, a puppy wandered onto our small ranch. This isn't uncommon, as dogs are attracted to the farm scents/sounds. While waiting for his owner to contact us, I have been trying to figure out what breed/mix he could be! I'm guessing shepherd/mastiff or great dane. Thoughts, anyone?

Maybe staffordshire terrier x lab?

Mastiff or great dane crosses often have droopy cheeks, which I don't see any evidence of in these photos. Same with shepherd - the pup is missing any hint of the usual coat colours.

oooh! that sounds like it! Could also maybe be a smooth collie? The coat and facial structure seems right

Possibly. It wouldn't be my guess from the photos - the snout doesn't look quite the right shape - but they may give a different impression in person.

Update: Puppy is now at a (no kill) shelter awaiting adoption! Thanks for your breed ideas, it was fun trying to figure him out!
