Hi Everyone,

I am new to the group. I joined hoping that maybe someone will have some advice or insite into an issue I am having with one of my dogs. I have an English Pointer who I've had since he was a puppy. He is now 8 years old. He is a food hound who will eat and eat and eat if we would let him. He also has always been obsessed with drinking a lot of water. Like I can not leave the water bowl full at all times as he will drink it all and if I refill he will drink that too. So I have to limit the water intake. Since he was a puppy because of this water obsession we have had issues with him drinking a lot of water very quickly and then basically spitting that water back up several times until it is all back out of his system. I always just chalked it up to drinking too much and thus began the process of limiting his water intake. I have brought this up with my vet on several occasions and the vet seems unconcerned and agreed limiting water is best option. He did test him for diabetes just in case and he is fine there.

Fast forward to the past few years. He has started to have bouts of sickness where he actually vomits (heaving involved) his food and continuously vomits until he is vomiting up stomach juices/slimy mucus. I've had to take him in to the vet and put him on anti nausea, antibiotics, and another med to rebuild the coating of his stomach for three weeks. Plus fast him, slowly add foods like yogurt, cottage cheese, Rice, Chicken etc and slowly reintroduce his dog food to him. I also then decided he ate his food too fast and could be a problem so introduced a slow feeder. He had been going along fine for a while.

Now the past few weeks he has been regurgitating water very unexpectedly and it isn't just a little spit up like he has always done since he was a puppy. This is like a full stomach's worth of water. There typically isn't food involved and if there is any food present it is just a few digested little pieces. It comes so fast for him that he has done this on my bed and on the couch. I have had him to the vet and the vet really doesn't seem like it is a big deal. He is telling me to do the whole fast, limit food, limit water thing again.

I just don't feel like this is the answer. I have began doing research online and keep stumbling across the diagnosis of Megaesophagus. When I call my vet and mention this to him he dismisses it and says that isn't the problem. As mentioned he doesn't have a problem keeping food down. It is only water. And after reading everything I have I wonder if he hasn't had this issue since he was a puppy and that as it states it gets worse as they get older and maybe it is progressing now?

I am thinking about trying the Knox Blox option for hydrating him and getting an elevated food platform for his food. I already feed him a good lamb and rice dog food but now thinking of changing him to a limited ingredient food but not sure that is necessary since food doesn't seem to be the issue. Only water.

The other problem I have is that I have a second dog who has no food or water issues. How do I limit water intake to one dog but not the other?

My dogs have this problem what I did to make them stop puking it all back up is give them food then about 30minites to an hour later I give them about half a thing of water. When they play they get a half a thing of water tell it's gone then I will add more water in about 30minutes. :)
