Just wanted to post an update on a thread I started a little over two months ago. Our puppy was limping and holding one paw up in the rear. We took him to one vet who immediately suggested surgery (cruciate ligament). We took him to another vet and he told us leash walks only and lots of rest. We followed his advice and only in the last couple of weeks have let him loose. We were only doing leash walks and lots of swimming and progressively let him have some monitored off leash time. Now he's running around like crazy and wrestling with all the dogs, as a puppy should. We are still being very cautious and monitoring him however. I just wanted to post this update to possibly help anyone out with a puppy with a cruciate ligament injury. It can get better and you don't have to get surgery just cuz the vet says so,(unless it's full rupture). It's really hard work to discipline your puppy but it is definately worth it. I hope this helps anyone who may be in the same situation.
