I was eating on my couch, and my phone rang. My dog was across the room napping, and I figured I could just quickly walk across the room and grab my phone without putting my food in a safe spot.

Anyway, I walked over to get my phone, and my dog jumped awake and sprinted toward my grilled cheese sandwich. We both made it there at the same time and I snarled and blocked him and I may have shown my teeth. Then I took my grilled cheese sandwich and ran away to a corner to eat in peace.

Now I understand resource guarding at a much deeper level. I get why it must be so hard to train out of a dog. Luckily my dog doesn't do it (since I got him I occasionally mess with him while he eats, giving massages, playing with his ears, even occasionally blocking him with my hand in the middle of his meal so he has to sit and say please to eat again.)

I have a lot more sympathy for dogs who do it now.

If you've ever freaked out at a spider - reactivity.

I resource guard, too. Hard habit to break when people typically O want to steal the chocolate/food. Lol. Some of my friends are...not nice.
