Hi all! there is a chance that I will be acquiring a shelter dog this weekend (hoping to save her from death row) and I'm not sure if she's house trained. She's about a year old, probably a little older but not more than a year and a half. She'll be living in an apartment with regular walks outside and such but I just wanted some advice on house training as it'll be my first inside dog. I've read about crate training - is that the way to go? Any and ALL advice appreciated! Thanks in advance!

All shelter dogs need a bit of help with house training to start with, expect a few accidents. At her age I'm going to guess she has done some house training before but the main thing is to keep a very strict schedule (esp when starting out) and take her out as often as you can. Treat and praise every time she goes outside, and no scolding for going inside.

Crate training is SUPER helpful and I highly recommend it.

There's stickies in the training section that you should check out-lots of articles, videos, etc that are super helpful.
