Hello everyone,

I just noticed tonight that my dog has 2 tiny yellow pimple like bumps on her anus. She was licking there quite a bit so I checked it and that's what I found. It also looks like she has a bit of crusty skin most likely from licking but am unsure why the bumps are there.

We have recently tried her on the raw food diet (turkey and chicken) but had to go back to Natural Balance LID for now (past 2 days) because my dog hasn't been interested in raw. She has had prior anal gland problems (quite prominent) but have never seen this before as a result of anal gland irritation.

FYI, she is on her heat atm, so I'm not sure if that may have something to do with it? Could it be this, allergies, etc??

I'm so sick of my puppy having problems. I feel so bad for her and feel hopeless :( I don't know what to do! Any advice would be great!! Also if you know how I can help her!

Usually licking in that area is a sign of the dog needing their anal glands expressed, but it could also be because she is in heat. I would take her to the vet and see if it isn't her anal glands bothering her and then go from there.

It's also possible for dogs to get black heads and infected hair follicles, so there is a possibility it is one of those, though those are rare in that area.

Hi there!

Thanks for your reply. I did take her to the vet and her anal glands were pretty full. She has had reoccurring anal gland problems (usually cannot express on her own) and so she may have been biting due to this or her heat. The bumps went away though within a day or two and the vet didn't see anything troublesome (which is always good)!

Bella (my pup) is on day 5 of the raw food diet and her stool seems to be hardening up from the bone. I'm hoping this will help her allergy wise and anal gland wise as the bone should help her express her anal glands naturally!

Thanks again!
Kerri
