My 2 year old Cavalier King Charles spaniel was neutered 19 days ago. Today I noticed, on his last scab that there was what looks like a suture poking through. The vet informed me that he has dissolveable sutures, but this one seems hard. Is this normal? He has resumed normal activity.
The last thing to dissolve on absorbable sutures are the knots. It looks like a knot to me. It will eventually fall off. There is no infection not swelling and your vet is not concerned which are all good things.
If you enlarge that picture it's easy to see that there are 3 stitches remaining. Did you or the Vet remove the others? In my experience, dissolvable stitches are typically used internally, so I would think these would require physical removal.
Most vets use sutures that absorb internally and externally because it causes more trauma to the incision to have to remove sutures. Looks like PDS ok violet suture material to me which is disolvsable.Incision looks fine to me.
