I know this is in puppy help...but its more of a rant...lol

Chili is hitting his adolescence. I have heard the horror stories, so I guess Iam getting off easy...nothing I can't handle in the long run...but man is this little booger obnoxious lately.

He has began chasing the cats...and the chickens...never has before...his recall was 100% and its more like 85%...

He has began to jump on me...ALOT...especially at the back of my legs and when he hits my knees they buckle...and when they do he runs away...probably laughing at me.

his energy is through the roof....I mean I didn't adopt a tiny border collie but it sure does feel like it...exercised heavy twice a day, including tug and flirtpole, plus training, plus playing rough with Kiwi for hours used to knock him out....not anymore...he wants more...

Poor Kiwi last night was trying to sleep and he wouldn't stop soliciting her to play...eventually she turned around so his reply to that was to hump her head.

Zoomies...constantly from the door to the bedroom...run run run run.

Hes just...a snot latetly...makes me glad hes only 12lbs. :p

glad Iam not alone!

Hes learned how the toilet paper roll works...he keeps bringing me toilet paper. I left this morning to do som'thing and when I came home he jumped up and nipped my hand....I was like...thats it mister!!

Took his little butt on a LONG walk and made him work the whole time...then we came home and practiced putting the leash on for like fifteen minutes (he bites it, growls at it, and jumps at it like its a toy).....

hes eager to learn and now sits for the leash and doesn't bite it after our little session...but boy is his default setting bratty.

I'd take video, but its embarrassing...me getting knocked down by a little dog...plus he sneak attacks.

lol...oh please take video! i can just see the little monster doing all this. i'm thinking with clover that we are coming into that stage in the next few months? (any guesses with a big boy?)
i always ask clover when he is bad "do you know what kind of dog does <insert petty crime here>? a homeless dog...thats what kind!...don't forget where you came from buddy" (this weekend i pointed out the pound to him since i had to drive past on my way outta town...i'm pretty sure he understood what i was talking about cuz he totally looked out the window and right back at me)
i think this kind of talk is good training (for me...)

LOL HAHAHAHAHA THAT IS DOWNRIGHT FUNNY!

I always tell my dogs I am gonna take them to the pound. Harvick is our big boy, he did the same thing...ran like a crazy psycho through the house jumping on the furniture, he smacks his head on our glass coffee table all the time too lol. If Clover has not done it yet he may be more calm and destructive lol

Yeah...he will sit and let me put it on and then off again...without moving. Boy was he evil before...the goal is for him to automatically sit when he sees the leash (the others do)

When I adopt a new dog the pounds require you bring existing dogs for meet and greets...I always tell them the whole way there that I am returning them for a new dog. Since they are such bad dogs.

Doesn't work on Kiwi tho...she loves the pound. Scooter had a panic attack...I think he believed me...lol

Its supposed to start as early as 5 months...but most people say 7 months...it lasts som'times until they are a year and half...tho supposedly little dogs go through it faster.

Iam so glad I haven't waited to train him...I can't imagine what he'd be like... i know alot of people don't put their dogs in classes until they are like 6 months old...I can't even imagine.

I will try and catch his evilness in action for you guys. :) :)

i looked up stages of puppy development today, i think he's actually through it phew....i may have just missed it, but don't worry he has enough issues to make up for it...today he ate my bed!

haha, i think clover may like it now, but i looked into some doggie day care places when i first got him, and he about freaked out (rows of kennels with concrete floors...and they advertised a happy environment)

omg...i think people don't realize that they grow and change, and then when they get to that stage the little hamster finally gets his tired butt back on the wheel and they go "oh....train the dog, what a good idea"

ate the bed?

you win. :)
yeah, not too bad, i think it is more a seperation anxiety thing...he was extra glued to me last weekend, we went to a friends, and he has been there before, but for some reason he was completely beside himself stressed. walking from room to room brought on overexcited whining and grunting etc....so yesterday, when i left for work...he seemed back to himself, but no...he ate my super comfy memory foam mattress topper (luckily, not the mattress tho)

seperation anxiety sucks! everytime i think we have reached a plateau, it feels like we do a head dive off...i think i'd rather the terrible twos or whatever chili is up with mr chili
the really funny thing is that i never scold him for anything like that ever, but whenever i clean it up, he is even more upset....he also gets upset if he sees me cleaning up his poop in the yard...another reason i think his past people were awful!

have you ever used the over the counter calming stuff? have you ever heard of using valarien root? it was the main ingredient in one, and i am familiar with it in people, but not dogs....

on the up side, i can finally almost leave him in his crate without him going completely balistic....:D

my dog is regressing. and she is SEVEN you are not alone, you have my support. :p

one funny thing is she seems to have this weird type of seperation anxiety when I am THERE as opposed to when I am gone. My friend joked if Emmy could crawl up my butt and live there she'd be the happiest creature on the planet.

haven't figured out how to reverse that yet.

For some dogs the DAP collars and sprays seem to work and for others it doesn't (same with cats) that much. I think it is an individual thing. Desensitizing is another way to help SA as I am sure you know.

does he free range when you leave him?

Emma and Tippy both have SA. So i've been through that ringer already.
we've been experimenting with different space restrictions. the upstairs is gaited off and will remain that way....gives the cats their own space...he mostly hangs out in my bedroom....that is where his kennel is. the trouble is that if the space is too small, he really loses it:( i've read everything about it that i could get my hands on, but i always appreciate tips from anyone whoe's been there:)...he is getting much better tho....this is the first thing he's shredded in a long long time....

this was clover all weekend! sometimes i think he'd do better if i wasn't around when he's like that, you can see him getting tense, just waiting for me to go....

Do you feed him in it? What size crate? It has to be big enough for them to stand and turn and lay down. Harvick hated the crate, as a puppy he would grasp on with his teeth and pull and scream...we started feeding him in it and even putting him in it with toys and sitting in the room, ignoring him when he whined. It really did not take that long for him to get used to it. I hated doing it but we had to, he destroyed everything including an angel jewelry box my father got me for Xmas, that was it for me, I didn't feel bad afterward lol

I found that the only space that worked were crates...honestly...I would build up a HUGE happy reinforcment history with the crate and go from there...Tippy will scream once in a blue moon now...it was daily for a long, long, long time. She would scream for four hours straight...Emma is a stress peeeer....if you leave the room she will pee at the threshold of the Door.

the best way to build up a huge reinforcement history is to feed in the crate. :)

paws said it same time I did!

the crate size is good...actually perfect imo...and it is a wire kennel but i've covered it for him to help create a den for him. he gets part of his meals in the crate...it helps, he also gets lots of toys and stuff in there...but i could not leave him in there...yet. we are working on it, but i messed it up before and i have no doubt that he will injure himself if i tried it...i locked him up (for maybe 20 minutes?) in his crate when i first got him bc i didn't really think things thru very well:( he shredded everything inside, including the plastic tray in the bottom, and he peed all over himself
the thing is that when i first got him, he was anxious all the time, now it only seems to come on in bouts...does that make sense? i think, for some reason, he thought i was leaving him last weekend...i'm not sure why...but i'm a bit worried that even with all the positive stuff, he'll freak if i put him in there and leave him....but like i said, we are working on it....i think that if that calming stuff works than it may help him to get thru these moments better....

Ok...I captured the nonsence in all its glory...

Kiwi is never this nutso, but I just gave her a bath so I let her go nuts....Chili however, is like that on a regular basis...lmao

YouTube - After bath crazies

Critter stands in the dumbest spots...she will make a point to go stand where she can be trampled. Drives me nuts.

i just realized my screen door has Kiwi nose rubbings on it....ewww...
lol, chili sounds like a little demon! maybe he is a chupacabra...

lmao! you should see my sliding glass door, you can't even see through it anymore...

my sister's cat, jasmine will do that same thing...she likes to be in the middle of stuff, but i don't think she knows what to do with herself

haha...He must be...he is a noisy noisy little dog. hes still running around like an idiot...this time with Tippy...thank god three of them play with him...plus me...I can't imagine him being an only dog...I always think how good it is that I got him, because anyone else would have taken him back to the pound by now. He certainly needs to be challenged on a daily basis. Love him to death, but definetly not a beginner dog. :)

The windows in my car are all nose smudged :)

The two idiots run a certain path around the yard...tearing ass...Critter will stand in their way...constantly...I usually have to dive on her to save her.

does chili ever have down time? some dogs don't, i've learned that i need it.:) still, he is really cute....and yes, i agree, lucky you got him.:D

in the vid, critter looked like she was trying to figure out what the heck they were doing.....you said she doesn't really play with them....maybe she sorta wants to, but just isn't sure what exactly to do, so she just stands there....:ponder:

i just bought windex wipes cuz i was having a hard time seeing out the windows when the light hits them, clover drools a lot:rolleyes:
