So while I was at work yesterday our golden smacked her tail and split it open! So the fiancé and her friend thought it'd be brilliant to elastic bandage it. Fast forward to this morning, took the bandage off, there was some crying here and there and tenderness to the tail, now her tail just doesn't wag the same! It appears limp, gave her one of her Tramadol for comfort. Any info please is greatly appreciated! I REALLY hope they didn't wrap it too tight! It appears limp after the first 5-6 inches from her bottom.

You need to get her to the vet and get it properly x-rayed, cleaned and bandaged. I'm betting that she broke it. Whatever is going on she needs the vet.

Third for getting to the vet ASAP. Tail injuries can be very difficult to manage, especially if they aren't treated right away and you don't stay on top of the after care until it's beyond being fully healed. The only time I've ever seen a successful wound management of "happy tail" without any extra complications was on my own dog; and that's only because I was on top of her 24/7 until it was fully healed and the hair started growing back. I slept in the arm chair next to her crate for 2 weeks to make sure she didn't get around the e-collar at night, she came into work with me everyday (thankfully I'm a vet tech so I was able to do that), I changed her bandage every other day, and I did warm heat therapy to encourage blood flow to the area. Trust me "happy tail" is not a happy experience for anyone involved. Broken tails are a bit easier to deal with IME, but they still have a rather involved medical management that you have to keep up with if you want to avoid any major complications.

Ouch.

poor dog! -
i hope there's no tissue damage from the wrap. :(

Keeping bandages on tails is notoriously difficult, but it sounds as tho she may have needed stitches, or at least skin-glue.
Please let us know the result from the vet? - good luck. :)

Oh no, just read this and saw the date. I hope it's all okay, did you get to the vet yet? What was the outcome? Hoping all is well by now.
